Activity Assistant (Healthcare)
CERTIFICATES & TRAINING (PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED: Successful completion of classes in Activity Coordinating. Successful completion of Dementia Training. Any kind of other Activities certificate in the Senior Living or other field, like working with disabilities or children.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must have dependability, creativity, a sense of humor, enthusiasm, affection and patience; ability to organize; ability to teach, supervise, and orient; willingness to accept consultant direction and to assume responsibility. Must enjoy working with the elderly and have an interest in and understanding of their needs. Ability to prioritize and manage several tasks simultaneously.
EDUCATION OR EXPERIENCE (PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED): Associate's degree (AA.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with Dementia in a Community Setting. Two years of experience working in a social or recreational program, including other areas different than senior living. One year experience working in a resident activities program in an independent or assisted living community preferred. Must enjoy working with seniors.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
