Fire Prevention Technician (Finance)



The Riverside County Fire Department is currently seeking to hire a Fire Prevention Technician located in Perris. The incumbent will be expected to drive throughout Riverside County and perform fire safety inspections of vacant land and buildings; to assist in fire safety education programs; and to do other work as required.

Please note: This recruitment will be used to fill future Fire Prevention Technician vacancies in both the Perris and/or Palm Desert locations.

Competitive candidates will have completed or are currently enrolled in the Fire Prevention I series courses, or candidates who possess Fire Inspector or Fire Prevention experience.

Who may Apply?

This recruitment is open to all applicants.

Applicants who are current County Fire Department employees and/or County employees may be considered before other applicants, depending on the volume of applications received.• Inspects assigned areas of the County for flammable vegetation hazards; issues notices of violation of fire safety laws and regulations.

• Conducts reinspections to determine progress towards compliance with laws and regulations; assists in presenting fire safety education programs to schools and other community groups.

• Conduct flow measurements of new and existing fire protection water systems.

• Performs annual fire and safety clearance inspections of facilities licensed for public care, such as hospitals, homes for the aged and child care centers.

• Prepares and maintains records and reports of properties in compliance or violation of fire safety laws and regulations.

• Assists in preparation of graphs and charts for use by the Fire Prevention Program staff.Knowledge of: Common fire hazards and fire safety practices.

Ability to: Learn to understand, interpret and apply weed abatement control and fire safety laws and regulations; make accurate observations, evaluate situations and adopt effective courses of action; read maps and follow directions; work cooperatively and effectively with other employees and the public; prepare routine reports and maintain accurate records.
