Clinical Laboratory Technician (R&D)



The CLIA Laboratory in the Research Department at New England Biolabs (NEB) is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to perform complex laboratory testing according to CLIA defined policies and procedures. The successful candidate will be responsible for specimen handling and processing, test analyses and maintaining records.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform clinical diagnostic testing using nucleic acid-based amplification methods.

  • Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling, processing, and testing of patient samples.

  • Assist in maintaining laboratory instrumentation by ensuring all maintenance is performed on schedule in addition to quality control for all reagents.

  • Assist in tracking supplies and reagents for diagnostic testing.

  • Troubleshoot and assist in resolving problems in the clinical assay with support from the Clinical Lab Supervisor and/or Technical Director.

Required Qualifications and Experience: 

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in Biology, Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology from an accredited institution, college or university.

  • 6 months-2 years relevant experience.

  • Prior CLIA experience highly desirable.

  • Ability to work under general supervision, follow instructions accurately and thoroughly, with an attention to detail and record keeping.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience: 

  • Experience in molecular biology techniques, particularly qPCR and LAMP.

  • Coursework in molecular biology, virology and/or genetics.
