Plant Protection Craftsman DR (Agriculture)

About the Role

We are seeking individuals who are detailed and enjoy being outdoors to join our Plant Protection team as a pesticide applicator.  In this role, you will be responsible for making daily decisions about how much and what pesticides (including herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, or nematode control agents) you apply to our plants in a safe and efficient manner to ensure our plants continue to grow to our high-quality standards.  

What You'll Do

  • You'll follow company guidelines and label instructions concerning how to properly measure and mix chemicals, how to properly apply those chemicals, how to complete reporting as necessary, and how to follow proper methods for chemical container disposal. 
  • You'll make sure your spray equipment is maintained in good working condition.
  • You'll make sure that you wear and maintain your personal protective equipment properly. 
  • You'll make sure that the chemical storage facilities are maintained in good order.

Who You Are

  • You can successfully pass the annual cholinesterase and pulmonary function test.
  • You can successfully pass the private pesticide applicator's test.
  • You can successfully pass tractor training and hazard communications programs.
  • You can successfully pass a plant identification test.
  • You have basic mechanical ability.
  • You can read and comprehend MSDS Sheets and chemical labels. 
  • You are a good team player but are also self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • You have demonstrated math skills and are a good communicator both in verbal and written form.
  • You are safety-oriented, detailed, and can follow verbal and written instructions.
  • You are punctual.
  • You have a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record as per company guidelines.
  • You can work in inclement weather conditions, i.e. hot, cold, and rainy.
  • You can walk and stand on uneven, unpaved surfaces over long distances up to 10 hours per day while wearing a respirator and proper safety equipment.  You can lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly.  You can bend, squat, reach, pull and push, and lift over your shoulders, with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • You are open to working extended hours and can work additional hours or a different schedule based on business needs.
