Facility Maintenance Technician (Government)

SUMMARY:  

The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing routine building maintenance task.  Performance of building and office maintenance task in the following areas:  carpentry, electrical, heating, ventilation, plumbing.  Will perform general cleaning and other task related to building and office repair. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Monitors, maintains, and performs standard repairs to building electrical systems, such as fixtures, switches, photocells, and outlets.
  • Monitors performance of heating, ventilation, and cooling systems for the building; performs standard repairs/replacement of components, as appropriate, and non-technical maintenance task such as cleaning of heating and cooling fans coil units, changing filters and adjustment of system controls.
  • Monitors and performs maintenance of plumbing systems, to include standard repair of leaking fixtures, cleaning obstructed waste lines, installing water coolers and heaters.
  • Performs carpentry maintenance task which will include installation of sheetrock/drywall installation and/or repair, window replacement, cabinet and countertop replacement, painting and texturing, and door and hardware installation.
  • Painting of interior and exterior finishes as needed. 
  • Assist in maintaining water treatment and storage systems.
  • Ensure proper care of maintenance equipment and supplies.
  • Promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Documents facilities maintenance requirements and maintains appropriate records of work performed
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • 3-5 years' experience working in facilities maintenance.
  • Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing and carpentry.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Mus demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, customer service oriented.
  • Must be organized, detail oriented, self-motivated and able to multi-task.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Ability to perform other functions such as standing, walking, sitting, twisting and carrying objects up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to work in cold and wet conditions with the smell of chlorine (inside plant 34 degrees and below)
  • Must be flexible with schedule and be available to work PM shift, weekends and overtime as required.
