Job Overview:

The Purchasing Assistant works closely with Purchasing Team on a daily basis to support business operations by ordering products or materials. Responsible for Purchasing and Administrative duties. Must have ability to communicate financial information and ability to keep information confidential. Must maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.



Reports To: Purchasing Manager

Supervisory Responsibilities: None


Duties/Responsibilities

Assist with purchasing goods and services for all assigned locations
Inventory counts through weekly and end of month inventory spreadsheets
Prepare and process purchase orders accurately
Track and confirm orders, follow up on delays and discrepancies
Update internal database
Assist with receiving and receipt entry
Assist with collecting updated Certifications and Surveys for Approved Supplier List
Responsible for Vendor Follow-Up
Various projects relating to account analysis and cost savings
All other duties as assigned



Required Skills/Abilities

Excellent communication
Great negotiation skills
Organized with attention to detail
Ability to build and maintain relationships with suppliers
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software



Education and Experience:

2 - 4 years related experience required
Associates degree in Business, Economics, Supply Chain Management or related field preferred
Experience managing multiple conflicting projects simultaneously
Prior experience working in manufacturing or metal finishing environments highly preferred




Physical Requirements

Prolonged periods of remaining stationary at a desk and working on a computer and talking on a phone.
Must be able to move up to 15 pounds at times.
Local travel is required on occasion.



Continuing Education

The individual is encouraged to complete at least 24 hours of job related training per year. This may be accomplished through University-level courses, seminars, continuing education courses, or as approved by the department manager.
