Automation Engineer (Project Management)
Organizational Relationships and Authority
The Automation Engineer reports directly to the Engineering Manager and provides technical leadership and support to the Operations Team. The Automation Engineer has the responsibility and authority to temporarily stop production due to safety.
Key Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of the Automation Engineer is to apply in-depth knowledge of all assigned equipment that will take full advantage of the capabilities of the equipment to optimize the utilization of raw material and labor resources. The Automation Engineer will research, develop and maintain a library of strategically relevant technologies that will advance our capabilities, while collaborating with Estimators and Technologist to continually enhance the collective knowledge base of the company. The Engineer seeks to optimize throughput and first-pass yield by providing operators with well defined and proven processes, capable and robust tooling, and impeccably maintained equipment.
Additional responsibilities include:
· Collaborating with Estimators to provide customers with optimized solutions and competitive quotes
· Supporting Operations to ensure flawless execution of processes.
· Activating new parts by evaluating offline programming, inspection specifications and control plans to ensure that processes are clearly defined for production to create run at rate parts that meet customer specifications
· Reviewing and approving all modifications to existing equipment, programs and tools
· Reviewing existing manufacturing processes for improvement opportunities and implementing process changes when needed
· Collaborating with team members to build and maintain a robust training program for new hires and ongoing skills development of the team
· Educating and supporting to improve safety, productivity, and quality while striving to eliminate waste.
· Participating in the corrective action process as it relates to quality issues in assigned area
· Supporting recommendations for equipment upgrades, replacements and additions with clear, thoughtful ROI analysis
· Managing capital projects in collaboration with the Facilities Manager to ensure machine installation, training and start-up dates are met
· Working with equipment manufacturers to understand the full scope and safe limits of machine capabilities for assigned area
· Performing internal audits as scheduled
· Providing support to Facilities Management Team to resolve equipment failures
· Providing support to remote operations for all responsibilities related to this position as needed
Qualifications and Competencies
To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess excellent interpersonal skills, be able to produce coherent written documents that are free of spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors, possess a reasonably optimistic and supportive attitude, and maintain the strictest confidence regarding all issues and information regarding the company's operations, its employees, financial matters, and personal matters of which the employee may become aware in the course of their work.

Education
· Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, from a reputable institution or similar combination of education and experience.
Experience
Minimum of 5 years of experience in the metal fabrication industry with responsibility for robotic technology.

Physical Demands

Able to speak clearly and understandably, with a pleasant tone of voice and manner
Able to hear within a range that enables normal telephone communication and communication on a manufacturing floor environment
Able to see a computer screen within reasonable reading distance without strain
Able to type at a keyboard without bodily or psychological discomfort most of the working day
Able to manage stairs, ambulate around the office environment and manufacturing floor comfortably in order to fulfill tasks required in various offices and departments
Able to travel by commercial or private plane, car, or train to either GSM or training locations without undue stress.
