Senior Product Owner Corporate (Project Management)

Position Summary: 

 

The Product Owner's primary role will be to work with stakeholders to create and evolve Allied World digital products. This role will work closely as a partner from IT to a variety of Corporate Services business units including HR and US Compliance.  Working closely with business, end users and functional groups (e.g. Design, Development, Infrastructure), the Product Owner will identify opportunities to improve efficiency, drive innovation, and solve business problems to support the growth of Allied World's business. They will work with their cross functional Product team to implement solutions that bring value to Allied World. 

 

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Deliver Business Outcomes – “What and Why”  

 
  • Manage the entire product lifecycle of the applicable products, from concept ideation to product delivery.  

 
  • Understand the business need, user needs, manage priorities and establish the vision for the product.  

 
  • Develop and maintain the Product roadmaps, release plans and backlog.  

 
  • Decompose the business needs into user stories with acceptance criteria.  

 
  • Create and leverage the business case to understand and quantify the value of outcomes.  

 
  • Well informed stakeholders and users– “Who”  

 
  • Establish and build strong relationships with relevant stakeholders including business partners and functional subject matter experts.  

 
  • Provide regular updates, on both strategic and tactical plans (e.g. roadmap reviews and demos) 

 
  • Grow the Agile Practice at Allied World - “How”  

 
  • Work with the team and broader organization to adopt agile practices to improve transparency, communication, effectiveness and team happiness.  

 
  • Participate in the AW Community of Practice and bring new ideas and practices the community. 

 
  • Provide guidance to less experienced team members and manages projects as needed.  

 
  • Drive innovation in processes while maintaining clear documentation of methods.  

 
  • Continually improve processes and maintain clear documentation of methods. 

Professional Experience / Qualifications 

  • Strong knowledge of core functions of an insurance Company and applicable concepts.  
 
  • Ability to effectively communicate and influence using analyses at various levels, including senior leadership.  
 
  • Experience building successful business partnerships.  
 
  • Effective communicator and exceptional listener with experience persuading/negotiating trade-offs of scope and timelines.  
 
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to effectively resolve complex situations and issues.  
 
  • Solid project management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities effectively and lead teams.  
 
  • Proactively conduct user research, customer interviews and lean experiments 
 
  • Ability to advise and manage expectations of stakeholders, earning trust and building durable relationships.  
 
  • Ability to make critical business decisions effectively within scope of authority.  
 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team member from different business units. 
 
  • Ability to manage through ambiguous and challenging problems creatively and effectively, leads through change. 
 
  • Education & Training: 

 
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline or product development experience.  

 
  • Typically, a minimum of 5 years of related work experience.  

 
  • Domain knowledge of insurance and/or reinsurance is required.
