Chief DevSecOps Engineer (Engineering)



The Chief DevSecOps Engineer will integrate security throughout the development lifecycle, ensure alignment with the Veteran Affairs and federal cybersecurity standards, and guide technical teams in adopting modern DevSecOps practices. This role is responsible for designing and maintaining secure, automated, and scalable software delivery pipelines that support the rapid, reliable, and compliant delivery of solutions for Veterans.

This position is primarily remote with occasional travel to the DC/VA/MD area for program meetings or conferences.

Position Responsibilities:

Lead the design, implementation, and governance of DevSecOps pipelines and frameworks for the E&E 2.0 program.Ensure security is embedded into all phases of the software development lifecycle, from code development to production deployment.Define and enforce standards, policies, and best practices for CI/CD automated testing, configuration management, and release automation.Oversee the integration of security scanning tools, vulnerability management, and compliance checks into pipelines.Collaborate with development, QA, release management, and infrastructure teams to ensure seamless and secure delivery.Establish and track DevSecOps metrics to measure performance, security posture, and delivery efficiency. Support cloud-native solutions and containerization strategies (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker) for scalability and resilience.Ensure all DevSecOps processes comply with VA cybersecurity, FedRAMP, and federal IT standards.Provide technical leadership, guidance, and knowledge transfer to DevSecOps engineers and development teams.Lead troubleshooting, incident response, and root cause analysis for pipeline or deployment issues.Deliver regular reports and briefings to VA leadership and program stakeholders on pipeline performance and security posture.Performs other duties as assigned.
