Associate UX Designer (Information Technology)

Ascend Learning is hiring a motivated UX professional for the position of Associate UX Designer.  Are you interested in joining a mature user-centered design team that supports online education backed by data and analytics systems? This position can work hybrid from our Leawood, KS office location (preferred). Working hybrid from one of our other Ascend Learning offices located in Burlington, MA, Gilbert, AZ, Minneapolis, MN or fully remote also considered. 

Responsibilities 

  • Be a key member of the centralized UX / UI team at growth-oriented, user-focused company. 
  • Support user-centered design process by coordinating user research recruitment, taking notes during user research, conducting user interviews, creating surveys and synthesizing research findings. 
  • Assist UX Designers in all phases of our best-practice design process, which includes creating user flows, conceptual wireframes and design mockups as part of ongoing design projects.  
  • Collaborate with design team in building design component and pattern library. 
  • Support tactical design projects – working with product and development teams to recommend usability enhancements and help with design revisions during feature refinement. 
  • Collaborate with design team to maintain and update our research repository and other tools for documenting and sharing design artifacts. 
  • Support user data analytics and success metrics initiatives by analyzing data, creating deliverables to share metrics with others in the organization.   

Education and Experience 

  • Completion of college degree or certificate program related to Information Technologies, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Industrial Design, UX or related field. 
  • Experience with user research and design of complex software systems, web applications and/or mobile applications. 
  • Experience creating design artifacts and deliverables such as workflows, personas, journey maps, wireframes, interactive design prototypes. 
  • Experience working with design tools such as Axure, Figma and AdobeXD. 

Skills and Abilities  

  • Willingness and ability to progress the organization's user-centered design processes. 
  • Knowledge of User Centered Design, UX methods and design life cycle activities. 
  • Knowledge of user research/survey tools such as Survey Monkey, Ethnio, Qualtrics, UserTesting and UserZoom. 
  • Knowledge of design tools such as Axure, Sketch, Figma and Invision. 
  • Knowledge of and ability to schedule, define, plan and execute user research, including but not limited to: participant recruitment and scheduling, creation of research guides, ability to identify user behavioral patterns and synthesize findings. 
  • Willingness to contribute ongoing maintenance of Ascend Learning's Design System, including visual and interactive standards for component libraries and style guides.  
  • Ability to take direction from other designers and work well independently and function effectively during assigned tasks. 
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills. 
  • Analytical thinker and problem solver. 
  • Passion for user experience design and the willingness to learn new processes and skills, and work to continuously improve the UX team's skills and knowledge through your work and experiences.
