Senior Environmental Scientist (Engineering)

SEPI-Planning

What you'll be challenged to do:

TranSystems is seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Biologist with an entrepreneurial spirit, creating a vision for growth in their personal practice while contributing to the growth of the Environmental practice within TranSystems. This position will be in the TranSystems Raleigh Office and ideal candidates should have a background in wetland/stream assessments and permitting, and/or experience with threatened and endangered species in the southeastern US. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, able to travel overnight if needed, and comfortable working in palustrine and riverine environments.

 

Responsibilities include but not limited to the following:

  • Wetland and stream delineations
  • Threatened and endangered species surveys (e. g. plants, freshwater mussels, bats, fish, and crayfish)
  • Aquatic surveys using tactile, snorkeling, and SCUBA methods in freshwater rivers, lakes, streams, and swamps throughout North Carolina and surrounding states
  • GIS mapping, data analysis and report preparation
  • 401/404/CAMA permitting
  • Project management


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Botany, Natural Resources, Forestry, Soil Science, Hydrology, Zoology, Biology, Environmental Science

     

    Additional Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements:

    • Current valid NC Driver's License
    • NCDOT or similar state DOT experience
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and GIS Software
    • Self-motivated, detail oriented, and able to handle multiple tasks as assigned
    • Time management with the ability to work independently and communicate well with others
    • Must have a professional demeanor, strong work ethic and ability to interact with multi-discipline and multi-office teams

    Working Conditions and Physical/Mental Demands:

    • Talk, hear, use hands and fingers to handle or feel, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach
    • Ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds occasionally
    • indoor office environment 10-70% of the time depending on the time of year and field season schedules
    • Travel via personal automobile on occasion as needed

What we'd prefer for you to bring to our firm:

  • SCUBA Open Water Certification and experience with freshwater aquatic species surveys
  • PWS, LSS, and/or SWITC
  • Experience preparing reports in accordance with NCDOT standards and guidance principles, or other similar state DOT guidelines.

This compensation range is specific to the State of California and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; internal peer equity; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At TranSystems, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
