Position Summary:
The Wet Lab Research Assistant will be responsible for processing and assaying blood samples collected from projects within the Biobehavioral Mechanisms Explaining Disparities (BMED) Lab. The Wet Lab Research Assistant will sometimes handle sensitive and confidential information, which must be secured, and he/she must ensure that the private information of study participants remains confidential.

Working Environment:

  • Physical Demands: Requires working in a wet laboratory (up to 8 hours per day), working at a computer, and occasionally obtaining materials from upstairs/downstairs.

Salary: $43,888

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree with major coursework in one of the major sciences
    • In lieu of the education requirement, additional related experience, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year-for-year basis may be substituted
  • 1+ year of experience in research work

Skills:
  • Wet laboratory experience
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • Detail-oriented
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to build reports
  • Strong proofreading and presentation skills

Preferences:
  • Knowledge of statistical software packages such as Stata, SAS, R, or HLM

Essential Functions:
  • Prepares plasma and serum samples from human blood samples
  • Performs in vitro leukocyte cultures
  • Performs phenotyping of leukocyte subpopulations using FACS technology
  • Isolates peripheral blood leukocytes
  • Responsible for intake and registration of samples
  • Constructs, assembles, and operates laboratory apparatus and equipment
  • Performs experiments (such as ELISA) and bioenergetic profiles of leukocytes using Seahorse Technology
  • Records and evaluates data obtained in accordance with requested methods
  • Works with the lab's data team to ensure standardized organization of data
  • Assists with recruitment and conducting participant visits
  • Ensures private information of study participants remains confidential and secure
  • Participates in the design, planning, and implementation of research projects and data analysis
  • Identifies, locates, and obtains data/information
  • Utilizes statistical software to quantify data
  • Builds automated reporting solutions
  • Manipulates and cleans data
  • Reports research findings
  • Performs all other duties as assigned
