Litigation Support Specialist (Finance)
Performs routine litigation support tasks necessary to prepare common electronically stored information (e.g., PDF files, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint files, etc.) for review by the litigation team or for production to opposing counsel. Uses specialized litigation technology applications (e.g., processing software, document review databases, etc.) to meet the technical and litigation support needs of civil and criminal litigation teams. Assignments include the following:
Consults with litigation team members (e.g., attorneys, investigators, legal support staff) to understand case needs and technical requirements. Develops a plan for processing, review, or production of electronic files consistent with those requirements.
Maintains accurate and current records regarding incoming electronic case materials and outgoing discovery productions, adhering to office tracking protocols, such as by completing standardized inventory or tracking forms.
Uses software applications to extract electronic case materials from storage devices. Stores electronic case materials in compliance with office policies and procedures (e.g., adhering to common folder structure or naming conventions). Ensures proper security is maintained over case and litigation support project materials, in accordance with office policies and procedures.
Organizes and prepares electronic files for processing. Uses specialized software applications to perform basic processing of common electronic files. Performs quality control on processed files and addresses any identified issues.
Organizes and prepares hard copy documents for scanning. Scans hard copy documents making appropriate determinations about equipment, unitization, resolution, and format.
Builds and maintains document review databases for litigation team use. Loads image, native, or text files into document review databases; performs quality control on loaded files and addresses any identified issues. Performs document review database maintenance or optimization tasks.
Uses basic document review database functions such as tagging, simple searching, sorting, and filtering, and advises litigation teams on the use of these functions.
Generates basic electronic discovery productions (e.g., Bates-numbered images with redactions and searchable text) that comply with production specifications and deadlines, including productions from document review databases. Performs quality control on electronic discovery productions and addresses any identified issues.
Prepares electronic discovery productions for transmittal to opposing parties. Uses software applications to copy electronic discovery productions to external media or file transfer systems. Uses software applications to secure electronic files contained in discovery productions (i.e., encrypts external media, uses secure file-sharing system, password protects files, etc.).
Edits and redacts audio and video clips consistent with litigation team requirements.
Advises on the redaction of electronic files following established redaction protocols.
Advises and supports litigation teams in identifying and implementing appropriate technical solutions to manage commonly found electronically stored information in civil and criminal cases. Provides advice, customer support services, and project management services in connection with electronic discovery and evidence, litigation support projects, and litigation technology software applications. Assignments include the following:
Provides guidance to litigation teams on best practices and strategies for organizing, storing, reviewing, producing, and presenting electronic case materials. Encourages the use of automated processes and software applications for investigation, discovery, case preparation, and presentation.
Provides customer support services to litigation team members on their use of litigation technology applications. Such services include basic troubleshooting, user assistance, and occasional basic training in response to case team needs. Assists with preparing training materials for litigation technology applications.
Regularly communicates with litigation team members about the status of litigation support projects (e.g., processing, production preparation, etc.) and the time and resources needed to complete projects.
Answers litigation team questions as they arise. Explains technical issues and processes in a manner comprehensible to litigation team members.
Ensures litigation support projects are completed according to litigation team and industry standards, and that specifications and deadlines are met.
Maintains inventory and tracks litigation support equipment (e.g., external optical media readers and duplicators; specialized scanners; large format printers; etc.). Maintains litigation support equipment in good working order. Trains users on equipment's use.
Following established procedures, provides technical assistance to litigation teams presenting or filing electronic evidence or exhibits in civil or criminal legal proceedings.
Works with litigation team members to understand case presentation needs. Suggests methods or software applications for presenting evidence or producing demonstrative exhibits.
Creates electronic versions of exhibits for court filings, depositions, hearings, or trials.
Assists with the creation of basic demonstrative exhibits.
Loads exhibits in electronic presentation software.
Sets up and tests courtroom presentation software or equipment.
Operates software or equipment to present exhibits during civil or criminal legal proceedings.
Qualifications required:
Requires working knowledge of personal networked computers, including Windows 10, MS Office Suite, and networked printers.
Knowledge of computer systems, databases, litigation discovery process, and the EDRM workflow preferred.
Knowledge of document review software, and encryption methods a plus.
At least one year's experience performing electronic discovery roles including but not limited to electronic files processing, image and data file conversion, data culling using review tools, quality assurance, database loads and retrieval, preferred.
Experience with eScanit, Eclipse, LAW, IPRO Suite, Relativity, and CaseMap suite valued.
This position requires U.S. Citizenship and a 7 (or 10) year minimum background investigation
Educational Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree preferred
Background and Screening: Candidates must be able to favorably complete a government background investigation and meet DOJ residency requirements.
Hours of Operation: The contractor will generally perform the services required under this contract within a 40 hour work/week, Monday through Friday.
