Starting with the Health Screeners for building entry, to the Information Desk for appointment direction, and the Check-in Desks for the appointment check-in. Each being responsible for ensuring that the patient is greeted with respect and kindness, patient care being the main focus and priority. To be successful as a Patient Registration Specialist, one must prefer to have direct patient interactions each day, both in person and over the phone. One must thrive in a fast paced work environment, and be able to flex on a moments notice. There are multiple duties in Registration but at the base of the responsibility is the patient's chart work. In a nut shell, Registration gathers the information and enters it in the chart so when the Physician is treating the patient, they have the necessary foundational data to start the clinical process to evaluate and treat the patient. Registration collects and enters the Past Medical History, the Family Medical History, the Past Surgical History, the Social History, a few Meaningful Use data points, while also reviewing the Patient's Demographics - making any updates necessary, plus add/update/terming Insurance policies for current billing along with processing the payment due for co-pay, payment on account, and/or surgery deposit. And that is just the beginning
