Mechanical Systems Engineer III - Design & Integration (Engineering)



Performs specialized and original engineering tasks involving the application of theories and technical concepts required to execute the design, development and certification of aircraft components and systems.  Applies new and current technologies to design, engineering and manufacturing processes to ensure the development and maintenance of the highest quality products and services.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

  • Develops major and minor repairs and substantiations for all commercial and military helicopters in civilian and combat environments to meet FAA and other regulatory authority's requirements.
  • Supports activities to ensure that design, manufacturing, assembly, installation, and operational testing conform to functional specifications, customer, and certification requirements in support of product upgrades and specific repairs.
  • Support Customer Support field inquiries.
  • Supports Material Review Board (MRB) and should become an MRB member at MDHI.
  • Liaison for internal and external customer(s) while adhering to MDHI's policies and procedures.
  • Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment for the design, and investigation of field repairs and support.
  • Provide technical support on all MD Helicopters products.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of and the ability to understand design requirements, integrate, maintain, and troubleshoot mechanical systems, installations, sub-assemblies and detail parts. These systems include but are not limited to, metallic and non-metallic primary and secondary structures electro-mechanical components, fuel systems, power-plant installation, mechanical/electro-mechanical flight controls, rotor systems, hydraulics.
  • The ability to create stress analysis and substantiations to support repairs.
  • Ability to solve technical issues of moderate complexity.
  • Familiarity with government contracting is preferred.
  • Foreign language proficiency is a plus.
  • Application of concepts, practices and methods related to helicopter systems and installations in a design environment are required.
  • Knowledge of the field repair processes.
  • Ability to communicate with the customer, particularly the US Army or other DOD customers.
  • Understanding of the difference in FAA major and minor repairs, and determination.
  • Knowledge and experience with 14 CFR Part 43.
  • Prior exposure in aircraft and or aerospace engineering is desired.
  • Prior experience in developing repairs for airframes and components.
  • Prior experience as a liaison engineer supporting production & repairs with evaluation of airframe and components, and providing solutions to correct the problems.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint.
  • The ability to understand and follow instructions and the ability to concentrate is required.
  • Ability to work with a support team for approval and substantiation of repairs.
  • Excellent written, verbal, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • AutoCAD and NX 5 to 11 is preferred.
  • Ability to understand and perform Stress Analysis.
  • The ability to get along with others and work in a team environment.
  • Access to Export Control Information.
  • Regular attendance at the worksite.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) in Engineering from four-year College or University and 8 years of work-related experience or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Prior experience in working on aircraft repairs in the field, preference on helicopters
  • Hands on experience, preferred
