Assistant Supervisor - Shipping (Administrative)

Purpose: To assist supervisor in running the department.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
v Assist employees in the department.
v Provide training to employees.
v Distribute work and monitor work progress and work quality.
v Enter finished product and other information in computer system as needed.
v Follow work orders closely.
v Fill in for all duties within department as necessary and required.
v Thorough knowledge of all jobs in department required.
v Provide back-up to the Supervisor and be acting Supervisor when the Supervisor is off work.
v Keep area clean and free from safety hazards.
v Maintain attendance records.
v Assist Supervisor with disciplinary actions.
v Ability to maintain confidentiality.
v Drive forklift as required.
v Other duties as assigned.
Supervision:
Received: General. Works independently with little supervision.
Given: Assist in monitoring of department employees' production and disciplinary actions.
Education/Experience:
High school graduation or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. Prior experience of at least one year in department required.
Communication Skills/Requirements:
Able to communicate verbally and/or in writing as to work requirements, work in progress, and/ or work completion. Ability to work and communicate effectively with others and to instruct / train others in their work.
Mathematical Ability:
Able to use math to add, subtract, multiply or divide and may work with fractions, decimals, percentages or formulas. Requires good knowledge of shop math.
Reasoning Ability:
Able to follow moderately complex instructions and/or directions. Able to problem solve. Requires the ability to decide on a course/sequence of action and to direct others. Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out job. Must have continuous visual and mental attention during the operation of equipment and/or machines.
Licenses/Certifications:
Forklift Certification and Haz-mat training required for some positions.
