RETAIL FOOD SAFETY MANAGER (Finance)



Manage the retail food safety program that guides/supports retail and division food safety managers in assuring compliance with applicable laws/regulation. Provide food safety expertise in program development, compliance assistance, development of training materials and technical support to Kroger operating units at the corporate and division levels. Manage third-party food safety auditing program working with the vendor and division to execute a successful auditing program.   • Bachelor's Degree in food science or a related field
  • 8+ years of progressive food safety experience
  • Certified Food Safety Professional Certification
  • Excellent organizational, influence and interpersonal skills
  • Successfully interact, communicate and present to all levels of the organization
  • Knowledge of retail food operations
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills
DESIRED
  • Any management experience in food industry
  • Any previous active participation in relevant professional organizations
  • Thorough working knowledge of store operations, food safety, and microbiological concepts
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to effectively meet deadlines
  • Provide technical consultation, assistance/direction to division food safety managers and general office personnel regarding food safety compliance issues
  • Demonstrate excellence in developing/executing continuous improvement projects that will improve the overall food safety performance of divisions, as measured by the Corporate Measuring Food Safety metrics
  • Manage the auditing of the third-party vendor who inspect retail stores for food safety/sanitation compliance, including auditor calibration and website services
  • Create, issue and report Corporate Compliance Metrics to board of directors, senior management, division management and food safety managers
  • Provide leadership/coach division food safety managers in the performance of their duties, their divisions' s metrics; provide feedback
  • Evaluate/recommend food safety measures for new merchandising plans, food production, processes, new store designs and new technologies that may be appropriate in enhancing the safe handling of perishable foods within the store
  • Take a leadership role among food safety professionals by leading/being a member of regional and national committees in the retail industry and their trade organizations
  • Develop good working relationships with FDA and state governmental agencies
  • Ensure that food safety training programs from Basic Food Safety to the Certified Food Safety Managers training programs are updated/standardized; develop specialized food safety training programs and HACCP plans
  • Develop communication programs to keep merchandising, operations, and stores employees current in food safety/sanitation policies, procedures, metrics and training
  • Maintain a food safety web page on the corporate web site; include corporate policies, best practices, food safety resources, contact list, etc.
  • Follow established programs, policies and practices to produce safe quality foods that meet regulatory and company requirements
  • Accountable to the Kroger Manufacturing and Retail Food Safety and Quality Principles
