Field Supervisor, Commuter Rail (Administrative)

This position is responsible for supervising rail transit employees engaged in either mainline or yard operations, to ensure the safe and efficient operation of commuter rail transit service. This is a safety sensitive position subject to the rules of the RTD/FRA Drug and Alcohol Policy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Recruits staff to include interviewing, hiring, assigning work, training, coaching, and counseling to ensure consistent application of employee guidelines, processes, and procedures. 

  • Assists with the training for commuter rail transportation personnel and coordinating, developing, revising and administering qualifications, certifications, and re-certification testing of current and potential employees in accordance with FRA regulation and policies and procedures.

  • Assists with operator assignments for the Run Board system, annual vacation, the recording of Daily Adjustment Sheets and inputs information into the appropriate software program.

  • Investigates accidents, incidents, disputes and disturbances and completes appropriate reports and necessary documentation. Assesses ability of operators to continue in service when investigating accidents, incidents and potential substance abuse problems.

  • Interfaces with community groups, contractors and other area transit and municipal agencies.

  • Trouble shoots rail vehicle problems and operates rail vehicles as required.

  • Conducts time point and passenger load checks to ensure schedule and route efficiency and performs operator efficiency testing as required.

OTHER:

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent. An Associate Degree in Applied Science is preferred.

  • A minimum of one year as a full-time train operator, preferably in an FRA regulated railroad.

  • Availability to work unusual hours, weekends and holidays.

  • Possess a current CDL, or have the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain certification as a Commuter Rail Vehicle Operator and Conductor.

  • FRA Designated Supervisor of Locomotive Engineers (DSLE) status preferred or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.

  • Proficiency in Commuter Rail operations and procedures.

OR:

An equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Pay Range:

$67,403.00 - $104,475.00 Annual
