Chemist (Finance)
Evaluates raw materials proposed as replacements for economy with emphasis on performance equivalence or enhancement. Provide support to resolve processing, formula, material issues.
Follows formula processing from initial manufacture to post manufacture audit.
Identifies and recommends improvements to processes to maintain quality, cost-effectiveness, safety compliance, and other parameters.
Collaborates with interdepartmental teams.
Responds to questions or concerns from customers, marketing, field sales, or stores, including, but not limited to jobsite, residential, or store visits.
Operates, maintains, and tests laboratory equipment; identifies problems when equipment fails and conducts or recommends repairs.
Maintains knowledge of federal, state, local, and organizational best practices and environmental health and safety regulations including but not limited to TIER II and Hazardous Waste.
Maintains a high level of teamwork to ensure maximum output, including, but not limited to gate reviews, test procedure development and implementation, organization, recordkeeping, and shared accountability with teammates.
Assist QC during peak periods or absence of primary QC person.
Provides training or recommendations to marketing, sales and customers as needed.
Develops or enhances product performance based on customer, marketing, and sales feedback.
Performs competitive evaluations needed for sales or marketing
Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in chemistry or related field preferred.
At least 5 years of coatings industry experience preferred.
Excellent mathematical skills including algebra and statistics.
Thorough understanding of chemical tests and processes.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software to draft laboratory reports.
Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn software and applications used for chemical tests and analysis.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer and standing at workstations.
Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
Must be able to traverse the manufacturing plant and customer job sites at times.
Exposure to various chemicals and compounds.
