Tax & Accounting Manager (Bilingual Spanish/English) (Education)

SUMMARY: While reporting to Tekni Corporate tax and accounting teams this Bilingual (Spanish & English) role supports each respective department while coordinating the Tekni owned Mexican controller groups in both Healthcare and Consumer businesses. This would include coordinating with local controllers and business unit leaders to timely and accurately account and prepare financial information under US GAAP and tax (ASC740) monthly, quarterly and annually as part of the reporting close processes. Support local controllers to access requisite details for third party preparation in Mexican and US federal domestic and international tax compliance filings.  This role will support Senior Manager US Tax coordinating all inter-company transfer price policies and annual compliance for the US and Mexican tax reporting as well as supporting the company's annual management fee charge processes affecting Mexican businesses. This role will require the candidate to research and develop US GAAP accounting and tax and local tax issues for Tekni's Mexican (“MX”) owned legal entities.  Additional responsibilities include supporting local teams minimizing indirect (VAT) taxes and US tax team regarding Mexico tax planning and tax controversy matters (Federal, US, international and state) and preparation of work papers.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations, especially those related to maquiladora operations, LATAM/Mexico cross border transactions, international tax laws 
  • Understanding of CUCA and CUFIN accounts as it relates to distributions, M&A and Thin Capitalization
  • Knowledge of VAT regulations. Support Corporate accounting team as necessary in managing monthly financial close process for Consumer Products and Healthcare entities in Mexico
  • Support Corporate accounting as necessary and local (MX) controllers on requests from external auditors to ensure successful audit results and compliance
  • Where necessary assist local controllers addressing requests regarding statutory accounting practices and studies regulations and guidance to ensure correct application of US GAAP

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Advanced analytical capabilities and experience with MX federal, state tax issues
    • Experience with tax controversy matters is a plus
  • Experience with ASC 740 US GAAP tax accounting
  • Experience with tax research engines (CCH, RIA, etc.)
  • Developed organizational and process management skills
  • Ability to communicate between both US and LATAM/Mexico teams in local languages (Bilingual)
  • Results oriented and able to move from hands-on to strategic quickly and effectively
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel and applicable databases
  • Adaptable and flexible and finds opportunity, in ambiguity
  • Assist with post-acquisition integration of recently acquired businesses
  • Oversee the monthly close of multiple business units
  • Collaborate with other functions to drive process improvements and efficiencies
  • Provide support for year-end audit functions
  • Participate in the ongoing development/establishment of accounting policies and procedures
  • Understand and document process flows
  • Research and document accounting transactions
  • Solid working knowledge of GAAP
  • Other duties as assigned

Salary Range of $115,000 to $130,000 DOE

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Requires at least 5 years of relevant experience in US Corporate tax and accounting functions or 4 years in Tax and accounting in public accounting firms
  • Completion of a four-year bachelor's degree required
  • Strong knowledge of Mexican Business Tax Laws
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is required
  • Ability to travel 20%, including international travel
  • Accounting experience in a manufacturing environment is desirable, but not required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook is required
  • Possesses strong working knowledge of ERP, tax software systems and sub ledgers
  • Possesses strong math aptitude, work accurately with numbers, good organization skills and ability to efficiently operate standard office equipment
  • Strong analytical ability and thorough understanding of computer systems and accounting principles
  • Must be detail oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Requires a strong team player who can also work with minimal supervision
