In this role, you'll collaborate with engineers, clinical, and product partners to bring bold ideas to life. You'll focus on the physical aspects and interactions of ION platform, applying a human-centered design process to transform technical complexity into designs that are intuitive, elegant, and manufacturable.

From sketching and prototyping to testing and refining, you'll explore a wide range of possibilities-building consensus across teams and shaping solutions that directly impact patient outcomes and clinician experience.

This is more than a design role. It's a chance to contribute to life-changing technology at the forefront of medical robotics.

What You'll Do

  • Champion a human-centered design approach, creating world-class products that push the boundaries of medical robotic technology.
  • Drive projects with autonomy while partnering across disciplines to deliver holistic, integrated user experiences.
  • Partner with user research, clinical, and product management to uncover insights through field research, usability studies, and clinical labs, translating findings into actionable design directions.
  • Build prototypes at multiple fidelities-from quick sketches to refined appearance models-to rapidly explore ideas, test assumptions, and validate design choices.
  • Transform complex technical and ergonomic requirements into elegant, practical solutions that balance desirability, feasibility and viability.
  • Deliver manufacturable design proposals, partnering with engineering to ensure high-quality execution that maintains design intent.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Is driven by a passion for creating transformative products that truly improve lives.
  • Is deeply curious about user behaviors and eager to learn from both field studies and lab environments.
  • Thrives on tackling complex challenges with a strategic, system-thinking mindset.
  • Operates with independence and initiative, knowing how to plan, scope, and prioritize with confidence.
  • Brings a bias for action, jumping in to support the team and moving projects forward.
  • Has proven experience in medical devices or regulated products, and a history of bringing innovations successfully to the market.
  • Excels at cross-functional collaboration, building strong partnerships with engineering, product, and clinical teams to deliver products that succeed in the market.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Industrial Design
  • 8+ years of experience in professional industrial design roles
  • An exceptional portfolio that demonstrates a methodical human-centered design process and delivering successful products from concept to production
  • A comprehensive set of prototyping skills from quick low-fi foam models to fabricating more complex functional learning prototypes
  • Excellent sketching, visualization, storytelling and presentation skills and an ability to effectively communicate a user-centered point of view
  • Extensive experience with SolidWorks is required. Specific experience with complex surfacing is a plus.
  • A thorough understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and designing for DFM & DFA considerations
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time for case observation.
