Communications Specialist - Email Marketing and Communications (Media)



JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Communications Director, the Email Communications Specialist oversees PERA's print and electronic newsletters and PERA's email communication program. The position works closely with the Web Content Manager and Digital Communications Specialist for a coordinated approach to digital communications across platforms. This includes creating publication content, analyzing data and analytics to create targeted digital communication strategies that broaden cand enhance engagement with PERA's membership, and target email marketing strategies to engage stakeholders in taking specific actions related to their PERA accounts and retirement planning.

The ideal candidate is a creative writer who engages our members in understanding their benefits and actively planning for a secure retirement. They are a skilled digital marketer able to leverage analytics, create inspiring content, and work independently or as part of a collaborative team to keep members informed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provides strategic direction to transition PERA's member/retiree communications from print to electronic and implements industry trends to ensure a modern approach to newsletter and email campaigns
  • Develops an email communications strategy that engages and informs PERA's membership and reinforces the tenets of PERA's Strategic Communications Plan
  • Develops original PERA and financial literacy content for email campaigns and other communication channels
  • Participates on the digital strategies team to ensure best practices and a coordinated approach to communications across email, web and social media platforms coordinating and writing content for appropriate communication channels
  • Manages targeted email campaigns for members and retirees, including a digital newsletter series
  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge and ability in communications using various digital platforms
  • Researches and recommends new opportunities to segment information and engage with the membership
  • Designs, sends, and analyzes email campaigns to increase engagement with target audiences
  • Gathers, organizes, and analyzes data in order to improve contact list building and audience targeting. Interprets and communicates analytics to stakeholders
  • Uses Google Analytics to evaluate membership newsletter engagement on the PERA website
  • Provides regular analytic reporting on email campaigns with recommendations for improving engagement
  • Creates editorial production calendars for email and newsletter communications
  • Collaborates with various teams to develop and disseminate content
  • Collaborates with various teams and divisions to assess communication needs and to effectively execute communication campaigns
  • Participates in training and educational opportunities for ongoing professional development

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, advertising, marketing, journalism, public policy, or related field
  • Five years of work experience managing and implementing email marketing and/or digital newsletter campaigns, preferably with a pension, financial institution of marketing agency
  • May substitute an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing strategic communication plans for digital engagement
  • Strong project management skills
  • Excellent writing and verbal communications skills that are particularly suited to digital and social formats
  • Strong knowledge and experience of digital measurement and monitoring tools (e.g. Google Analytics, Hubspot, etc.)
  • Knowledge of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and SEM (Search Engine Marketing)
  • Strong attention to detail, including grammar and accuracy of information
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as part of a team
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and to work independently
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent attention to detail

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Standard office environment with regular telephone communication, computer operation, and other office productivity machinery, such as a copy and printer machine.
  • Occasional travel by car or plane as necessary for business purposes

WORK FROM HOME OPTION

  • Opportunity to work from home up to two days per week. Eligibility dependent upon factors detailed in PERA's Work from Home Policy.
