Technical Specialist, Line Design (Intermediate or Senior) Novi, MI or Cedar Rapids, IA (Government)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for contributing to project scoping, developing conceptual transmission line designs and preparing cost estimates.
Provides guidance on and review of designs created by other ITC Engineers, Technical Specialists, and Designers.
Interfaces with internal ITC departments and confirms appropriate application of scope and requirements from initiation of project through design, construction, and as-built completion.
Creates and issues Requests For Proposal (RFP) and reviews contractor and consultant Proposals on a portfolio of transmission line projects.
Coordinates with and reviews contractor and consultant design work including application of standards & specifications, material requisitions, and drawings & documents associated with construction packages.
Reviews and responds to inquiries on the impact of proposed projects and external entities' requests for modification to and coordination with ITC transmission line facilities.
Provides technical support and recommendations to field personnel and contractors for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of system components.
Prepares, manages, records, and confirms accurate documentation of ITC assets.
Prepares, reviews, creates, and modifies ITC standards and specifications to align with current practices and industry standards & requirements.
Provides coverage for other Line Design Engineers and Technical Specialists on an as-needed basis.
Attends meetings and educational sessions to increase professional knowledge and skills.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology or relevant, equivalent experience and/or education.
Technical Specialist - minimum of two (2) years of related experience,
Senior Technical Specialist - minimum of five (5) years of related experience.
Knowledge of electric utility system operations, planning, protection, design, construction, and maintenance functions preferred.
Structural or geotechnical coursework preferred.
Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards including National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), American Concrete Institute (ACI) and American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) preferred.
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
Intermediate to advanced knowledge of PLS-CADD preferred.
Ability to learn and utilize job-specific software.
Possess sound analytical problem-solving and documentation skills.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with peers and superiors inside and outside the Company.
Ability to multi-task and work under minimal supervision in a team environment.
