Research Scientist (Information Technology)



This position is for a Research Scientist in Aurora, CO or King of Prussia, PA, with experience as a data analyst and with modeling/simulation for remote sensing applications. You will be to joining our AI/ML team performing data generation, exploratory data analysis, feature selection, and building/training machine learning models to solve challenging problems for our customer. Additionally, we have a team of excellent researchers and software developers who are eager to mentor and teach their craft!

Salary Information

In compliance with Colorado's Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the salary range for this role is $100,000 to $180,000; however, Stratagem considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills.

 

Requirements

Our ideal candidate is a Research Scientist with a strong physics and mathematics background who has experience researching, designing, and implementing simulators for remote sensing applications. Additionally, the ideal candidate would have some machine learning experience to be able to grow into a larger machine learning role at Stratagem.

 

As a Research Scientist, your responsibilities include:

  • Working as part of a small software development team implementing/running simulators to either generate data for training supervised machine learning models or wrapping them in OpenAI Gym environments for training reinforcement learning models
  • Performing exploratory data analysis, feature selection, reward function shaping to train and assess machine learning models
  • Reviewing relevant publications to understand and apply cutting edge algorithms to defense and commercial applications
  • Writing technical documentation supporting code, program capabilities, and user-guides

 

Required skills

  • BS degree in Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or relevant fields
  • 3-5+ years of experience in Aerospace engineering
  • Experience developing algorithms for applications in remote sensing in any of the following languages: C/C++, C#, Java, Python, MATLAB
  • An Active TS/SCI Clearance with SSBI

 

Desired skills (bonus points)

  • Experience with Python and any of the following Python data science / machine learning libraries: Pandas, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, Keras, Pytorch
  • Experience with any of the following AI/ML domains:
    • Reinforcement learning and familiarity with OpenAI Gym, RLlib, and Stable Baselines
    • Applying clustering algorithms and/or deep neural networks to real life problems
    • Object detection algorithms such as YOLO and Faster-RCNN
    • Natural Language Processing and recurrent neural networks
    • Generative Adversarial Networks and Variational Autoencoders
    • Implementing tracking & fusion and pattern-of-life algorithms
  • Experience with Linux
  • Familiarity with using AWS cloud computing resources such as EC2, S3, Lambda, etc.
  • Experience with any of the following additional languages: C++, Java, and/or C#
  • Experience implementing algorithms on the GPU in Python or C++ using CUDA and other CUDA libraries
  • Experience in application deployment, virtualization, and containerization
  • Experience working with various remote sensing datasets (e.g. EO/OPIR/SAR images, passive RF, etc.)
