Colson Group is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Tooling Engineer. The Sr. Manufacturing Tooling Engineer will report to the Manufacturing Strategy Manager and is primarily responsible for stamping and injection molding tooling development, design, and manufacturing. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
· Take an active role in driving development projects, value engineering and innovation initiatives to ensure consistent evaluation and documentation of processes, adequate configuration and preventative maintenance of systems and equipment, and innovative direction to reduce cost and improve sustainability. · Reviews product designs for tool construction · Reviews Die/Mold Spec Sheets with Lead Plant Tool Engineer and tool vendor · Obtains approvals of tool designs at all stages (Preliminary, Intermediate, and Final) · Travels to tooling vendors for on-site follow up and tool tryouts · Oversees pre-production engineering changes · Complete and submit for approval capital requests (AFE's) · Enters the requisition into the system and assigns the Die/Mold Numbers for all new tools · Requests Part Data Transfers to tool vendor · Enters and maintains information in the Master Die/Mold list · Creates Weekly Tool Progress Reports and distributes them to the project team · Drives the countermeasures on any issues from the Weekly Tool Progress Reports · Maintains mold trial process parameters and Mold Trial History Form with open issues · Obtains mold prints and 3-D data for mold designs, and maintains them in departmental directory · Maintains relevant information on all tooling on shared drive; including the Weekly Tool Progress · Reports, steel certifications, CMM checks, process sheets, and Mold Trial History Forms · Participates in continuous improvement activities, as required · Stays current with state of the art tooling and processes · Performs other duties as assigned · Travel (Up to 25%) to vendor sites to help drive tool and part optimization
