Position Overview

Navarro is seeking a highly experienced and motivated Environmental Site Lead to support NASA's Environmental Management Division (EMD) at Ames Research Center (ARC). This role is pivotal in ensuring environmental compliance and stewardship across a diverse and mission-critical federal research facility. The Site Lead will oversee a multidisciplinary team and serve as a technical subject matter expert across environmental program areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise environmental professionals supporting ARC's environmental compliance, permitting, and planning activities.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for site-level coordination with NASA EMD staff and stakeholders.
  • Provide technical oversight and quality assurance across environmental programs including hazardous waste, air emissions, stormwater, drinking water, and spill response.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting, inspections, and corrective actions in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Support the development and implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs), training programs, and audit readiness.
  • May serve as a working subject matter expert in one or more environmental program areas.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
  • At least 10 years of professional-level environmental experience directly related to the technical elements of the PWS.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a supervisory or team leadership role.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, analyze and interpret environmental data, and interact with a broad range of stakeholders including regulatory agencies and NASA leadership.
  • Proven accountability for work outcomes and decision-making in complex environmental contexts.
Professional-Level Experience Criteria

To qualify as "professional level," experience must demonstrate:

1. Independence of Actions - Ability to plan, self-direct, and make autonomous decisions.

2. Depth of Work - Involvement in data gathering, analysis, and interpretation.

3. Level of Interaction - Engagement with a wide range of stakeholders and decision-makers.

4. Responsibility for Outcomes - Accountability for accuracy and quality of work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting federal environmental programs, particularly within NASA or other government agencies.
  • Familiarity with California environmental regulations and permitting processes.
  • Certifications such as CHMM, HAZWOPER, or DOT Hazardous Materials are a plus.

Compensation:

$110,000 - $150,000

In accordance with the Navarro Research and Engineering, Inc (Navarro) salary determination process, Navarro takes into consideration the level of assigned job duties and responsibilities and the candidate's education, training, and/or experience relative to internal peers and the external labor market. A candidate's salary history will not be used in compensation decisions.
