Position Overview

Pennsy Supply, a CRH company, is seeking applicants for the position of Aggregates Area Operations Manager to lead operations in the Eastern Harrisburg/Lancaster/Lebanon, PA market area. Reporting to the General Manager of Aggregates, this role has overall P&L responsibility of four operations totaling 2.5+ MT per year of aggregates production. A successful candidate will be able to lead and grow a team of managers and supervisors to support a positive safety culture, while maintaining efficient production of quality products.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Directs and coordinates activities related to production of company aggregate products including safety, environmental compliance, quality control, operations and maintenance at all aggregate locations within area of responsibility
  • Manage, track, and accurately report inventory levels to management including quarterly and year end inventories
  • Establish and implement key performance indicators and utilize them to manage assigned sites
  • Direct mine and pit planning
  • Develop and implement a plan for continuous improvement
  • Effectively manage multiple priorities, problem-solve, and work under deadlines
  • Analyze the performance of plant assets, the effectiveness of procedures, and the productivity of personnel, taking action where there are opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, and reduce costs
  • Prepare and implement annual operating and capital budgets as well as capital spending requests. Update monthly forecasts with variances to budget.
  • Partner with the local Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager to maintain a safe working environment, meeting all company standards and regulatory requirements. Promote a culture of safety and learning.
  • Identify and develop talented individuals from all levels of your organization to build the team's capabilities and develop the bench strength to fill key roles, both hourly and salaried. Evaluate performance of subordinates and provide coaching enabling achievement of their full potential.
  • Effectively lead team and supporting functions to accomplish organizational objectives regarding safety, environment, profit, productivity, efficiencies, production costs and quality.
  • Develop close working relationships with peers (Sales Manager, QC Director, Equipment Manager, Asphalt and Ready-Mix-Concrete Managers) to create maximum value for the business
  • Maintain strong community relations

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education/Experience

  • BS Degree in relevant field and/or High School diploma with relevant industry experience
  • Industry experience in aggregates, asphalt, ready mix, or construction required
  • Minimum of 5 years of aggregates operations management experience preferred
  • Good understanding of various geology, mining methods and equipment, and quality control
  • Experience effectively managing and leading teams with excellent safety record
  • Track record of developing others and excellent leadership skills
  • Experience using computer systems related to tracking production volumes and metrics, quality, costs, payroll, etc.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Ability to prepare present and explain financial data to leadership.
  • Knowledge and understanding of functional areas within aggregates mining and processing.
  • Ability to work with peers and other members of management team from all lines of business to achieve progress towards mutual goals.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and oral/written communication skills.
  • Energetic, forward-thinking and creative individual with high ethical standards and ability to present themselves professionally and execute good judgement.
  • Problem-solving, root-cause-analysis, and project management skills
  • Experience in strategic planning and execution.
  • Demonstrated success in managing large group of employees.
  • High standard of ethics, integrity, and trust.
  • Self-motivated, strong work-ethic
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills; building rapport, listening, presenting, giving and receiving feedback.
  • Ability to communicate with state and local representatives.
  • Must be available as needed during non-traditional work hours.

  • Must be able to work under time constraints as needed.

General Requirements

  • Must be 18 years in age or older.

  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
  • Must be willing to work extended hours, nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Mobility to attend various meetings and events at offsite locations
