Overview - 

Looking for a multi-talented senior test engineer with skills and experience in as many of the following subjects as possible:  Experimental Mechanics, Road Load Data Acquisition, Lab Testing, and NVH.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute lab and proving ground projects on heavy vehicle components to meet specific program DVP&R objectives, investigate product issues, and improve existing products.
  • Provide testing, data acquisition, and data analysis support to Meritor product engineering groups for commercial vehicle electric axles, conventional axles, brakes, transfer cases, drivelines, and suspensions.
  • Provide advanced level of support for vehicle and lab testing methods, instrumentation setup, transducer selection, vehicle instrumentation, custom strain gage transducer design, fatigue analysis, and correlation between lab and vehicle durability.
  • Manage and operate Experimental Mechanics equipment and software such as Somat eDAQ, Glyphworks, wheel force transducers, all types of standard analog transducers, and CAN based transducers.
  • Apply and develop fatigue analysis methods involving Stress-Life, Strain-Life, test bogie development, and materials.
  • Assist with NVH Dyno lab project coordination and data analysis.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance in updating and creating of test procedures.
  • Verify the validity of test criteria (loads, torques, etc.) and resolve conflicting issues prior to start of testing.
  • Analysis and verification of test data, including comparison of data with established test procedures and historical data. Ensure the quality of measured data and that the test objective was met.
  • Lead the development of innovative test criteria based on experimental and analytical analysis such as Design of Experiments (DOE) and fatigue analysis.
  • Provide specifications for test and fixture design and update work instructions.
  • Perform correlation of field test data to the lab environment using various tools.
  • Provide written and verbal reporting of test results.  Update and close test projects via PDM system.
  • Research emerging technologies and implement improvements as appropriate.
  • Assist in determining test project scope and direction, and adding new capabilities.
  • Communicate effectively with other functions such as Product Engineering, Program Managers, and Technicians.
  • BS in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace) or Physics.  MS preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in testing, data acquisition and analysis.
  • Solid understanding and hands on experience with Axle, Brake, and Suspension products and test methods. Electric powertrain experience a plus.
  • Ability to work on military programs.
  • Advanced level with computer based data acquisition and analysis tools.
  • Able to travel up to 20% on occasion as needed.

Skills:

  • Technical knowledge of data acquisition systems such as Somat, Dewesoft, and MTS.
  • Technical knowledge of transducers such as accelerometers, load cells, LVDTs, and string potentiometers.
  • Advanced level with data reduction techniques using Glyphworks, LMS or B&K. 
  • An understanding of NVH and structural fatigue methods a plus.
  • Familiarity with fasteners and bolted joint measurement techniques a plus.
  • Familiarity with 6 Sigma tools such as Weibull analysis, hypothesis testing and DOE.
  • Able to manage and prioritize among several jobs simultaneously.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a diverse team environment.
