Activities Assistant (Personal Services)



Our long-term care facility is seeking a dedicated and outgoing Activities Aide to help schedule and run entertainment programs for our patients. In this role, you will be responsible for helping manage the recreation schedule, filling each day with a variety of activities that are easily accessible by our residents. These activities may be indoors, such as bingo or music appreciation, or they may be outdoors on our campus and off campus. You will bring residents to the activity area from their room and encourage them to join in on the days activities. Your goal will be to enhance our residents daily routine with fun and interesting programs. Activities are therapeutic and essential to our patients quality of life. We prefer candidates who have BLS certification and experience in elderly care, particularly to individuals with dementia.

Duties and Responsibilities
Schedule and run daily activities for our residents Set up and clean up the activity room or area when necessary Transport the residents from their rooms to the activity location Engage the residents to encourage them to participate Coordinate scheduling with other staff to avoid conflicts Coordinate one-on-one activities with residents as needed Run daily scheduled activities, both in-house and outdoor excursions (when possible) Encourage residents (and occasionally their family members) to participate in events Keep the facility calendar updated to ensure there are no scheduling conflicts with other events Keep accurate reports and notes for every resident interaction Coordinate, plan and participate in special events, including holidays. Physically maneuver residents in a wheelchair up and down a ramp or automatic lift Work with families to meet resident needs.
Requirements and Qualifications
Must be able to lift and bear weight up to 15 pounds daily and between 25 and 50 pounds or more occasionally. Must be able to push and pull 150 pounds or more on a daily basis. Requires constant physical activities including standing, walking, lifting, bending, stooping, pulling, stretching, turning, grasping, squatting, kneeling and reaching. Must be able to wear protective equipment such as gloves, masks, gowns, goggles and gait belts. Exposure to a variety of patient conditions and elements. High school diploma or equivalent, or currently obtaining a high school diploma Obtain and maintain AZ drivers license, AZ DPS fingerprint clearance card (at employees expense), food handlers card, paid feeding assistant course, CPR certification, TB Test (annually)Obtain COVID-19 vaccine or exemption Obtain and maintain AZ drivers license Regularly required to talk, hear and read Visual acuity to gauge the enjoyment of participants at events. Aural acuity to receive detailed information through oral communication, often from persons with speech impairment. Patience and compassion when dealing with others, especially those who are sick, injured, elderly, or from different backgrounds. Flexibility to work when needed, especially evenings, weekends, or early mornings. Frequent interactions with persons who may be verbally abusive to include yelling and cursing. Frequent interaction with persons who are disabled, elderly and emotionally upset and who may be emotional, verbally and physically abusive. Must be able to carry up to 50 pounds Friendly polite and courteous demeanor Able to take directions Excellent communication skills Work and cooperate as part of a team
