Maintenance Worker 2 (Maintenance)

The City of Kent is seeking an experienced maintenance worker to perform plumbing, electrical, carpentry, building maintenance, and related repairs to support the upkeep of public facilities. There is one (1) full-time, benefited position that will be filled by this recruitment process and it is represented by the Teamsters union. The hiring manager may establish an eligibility list for this classification within the division upon completion of the process.
This selection process will include a panel interview and may include a written and/or practical examination. Dates for these processes have not yet been established.
Salary
$59,496-$72,288 annually; dependent on experience

Under the direction of the Facilities Field Supervisor, or their designee, the incumbent is required to perform a variety of repair and maintenance tasks necessary to maintain an operational, functional, attractive, and safe, environment throughout the City of Kent facilities.
Work is characterized by a substantial volume of semi-skilled tasks and moderate volume of skilled tasks necessary in the daily maintenance of the City's facilities. Duties may include any or all of the following areas: plumbing, electrical, lighting, painting, carpentry, snow and ice removal, furniture and other facilities related tasks. Incumbent operates a variety of specialized machines and hand, power, and automotive equipment necessary in the performance of daily duties. Incumbents of this class can be assigned to operate heavy equipment or more difficult equipment at a higher level on a training basis. All assignments involve the responsibility for safe use of tools and equipment and the safety of others working in the immediate area.
Work is performed under general supervision. The incumbent will carry out recurring assignments independently but refers deviations from procedures to the supervisor for help or decisions. Work is reviewed for technical accuracy and compliance with instructions or established procedure.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform preventative and routine maintenance work necessary in the maintenance of City buildings, facilities, and grounds.
Replace light bulbs, tubes, and ballasts as necessary and perform general minor electrical work.
Move, install, and remove furniture; install and remove partitions; install and repair windows; replace broken glass; hang doors; and repair bay doors.
Perform routine safety inspections of buildings and fixtures for maintenance required; carry out maintenance tasks as needed; and refer to supervisor for assistance as appropriate.
Paint buildings inside and out.
Make minor plumbing repairs.
Assist in tenant improvement remodeling projects as assigned.
Responsible for keeping proper amount of maintenance supplies on hand for the building; turn in lists of supplies needed on a regular basis; move, unload and unpack supplies, store stock received, and dispose of shipping cartons.
Maintain inventory records and reports.
Operate the machines, tools and equipment listed below in a safe and effective manner.
Sweep sidewalks and assist in keeping outside premises in an orderly condition; and pick up litter from around the building and parking lots.
Assist in mixing, pouring, and finishing concrete/cement.
Perform seasonal upkeep and repairs as needed i.e. snow & ice removal, flooding damage, wind damage, etc.
Actively support the vision, mission, values and goals of the department and the City.

Learn the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC), National Electrical Code (NEC); construction, and related facility maintenance and repairs.

Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to supervisors and other employees of the organization.
Add, subtract, multiply, and divide; compute rates, ratios, fractions, proportions, percentages, volume, area, circumference, and distance; apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry; and draw and interpret graphs and sketches.
Work flexible hours including evenings, holidays, or weekends as needed.
SKILLS FOR THE POSITION MAY BE GAINED THROUGH EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, RELEVANT JOB EXPERIENCE or a COMBINATION, SUCH AS:
Education: High school diploma, general education degree (GED), or equivalent, supplemented by some vocational or trade school training, and
Experience: One (1) year of experience in building, grounds, and landscaping maintenance or a related area, or one (1) year of experience at a level equivalent to the Maintenance Worker 1 while performing building maintenance duties;
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Washington State Driver's License
Must successfully pass the City's pre-employment driver's records check; successfully complete the City's Defensive Driving Course; and maintain an excellent driving record
Must successfully pass the City's pre-employment substance abuse screening.
Completion of position relevant background check
Valid First Aid/CPR Card within 12 months of employment
