Maintenance Supervisor (Project Management)

Essential Job Functions:

  • Directly supervises employees in the maintenance department. Assign mechanical and electrical man-hours using input from Rockwood's weekly Maintenance Plan to maximize wrench time and minimize the impact on plant production.  Direct training and indoctrination of workers to improve work performance and acquaint workers with company policies and procedures.  Conduct routine training sessions with the maintenance group. 
  • Schedule and assign preventative maintenance.
  • Plan repair/ maintenance projects. Contact vendors and contractors to provide them with Scope of Work and receive quotes.  Participate in selection of optimal means of project completion.  Schedule and supervise project completion. 
  • Use of software systems to track maintenance, enter purchase requests, track inventory, and track maintenance costs.
  • Routine mechanical and safety inspections of all machinery and equipment. Participate in the improvement and growth of the Preventive Maintenance (PM) program in IFS based on equipment failure and quality issues.
  • Implement new methods and procedures designed to improve operations, minimize operating costs, and effect greater utilization of labor and materials. Supports Maintenance Coordinators effort to establish and maintain proper inventory controls.  Confer with management, engineering, and quality control personnel to resolve maintenance problems and recommend measures to improve operations and conditions and equipment. 
  • Coordinate activities of workers fabricating or modifying machines, tools, or equipment to manufacture new products or improve existing products.
  • Direct maintenance actives on utility systems to provide continuous supply of heat, electric power, gas, and air required for operations.

Required Education, Experience, and Skills: 

  • High School diploma or Or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • The Maintenance Supervisor must have a demonstrated record of accomplishment in a manufacturing culture focused on safety, reliability, and process improvement. Ideally this experience will include industrial minerals processing or continuous process manufacturing. Experience should include a minimum of 5 years of maintenance experience, preferably in a leadership capacity.
  • The ability to blend coaching and managing to effectively drive improved results, develop followers and strengthen the operation team.
  • Knowledge of pumps, motors, conveyors, and mobile equipment (operation and repair).
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Passion for results and demand for excellence.
  • Computer skills particularly with Microsoft and ERP applications.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, such as, safety rules, schematics, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and elevated locations.
