The Supervisor, Lab Assistants leads people and processes within Laboratory Operations. This position is responsible for ensuring that work at Foundation Medicine is performed in accordance with applicable regulations, including Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), College of American Pathologists (CAP), and New York state guidelines and other regulatory bodies. This position supports the Histology and IHC processes and provides direct supervision of the Lab Assistants team members in Path-Review and IHC Path-Review, keeping task and turn-around time (TAT) a priority.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise laboratory assistant personnel and day-to-day activities. Ensure no gaps in coverage especially during weekend and/or holiday times; may be required to flex to ensure coverage.
Serve as a technical resource for troubleshooting, problem-solving, and process improvement to ensure accurate test performance and meeting of all quality goals.
Maintain a deep understanding of laboratory processes to ensure effective troubleshooting of instruments and lab technology and software. Ensure team members also have the necessary training and understanding to effectively carry out these duties.
Manage in reviewing and approving timecards.
Support the collection, maintenance, and evaluation of monthly metrics and inventory.
Assist in the development of competency, training, and orientation of the laboratory assistance staff.
Manage with evaluating performance, providing input to reviews, corrective action and recruitment of new hires.
Participate in cross-functional teams to coordinate troubleshooting, process improvements, and/or implement new workflows or products.
Participate in agency inspections and audits under CAP, FDA, and all regulatory guidelines.

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor of Science Degree in a Biological or Life Science
3+ years of professional experience in a Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments / College of American Pathologists (CAP/CLIA) certified laboratory
2+ years of experience in a team lead or supervisory role
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in medical technology
4+ years of experience in a directly related field
3+ years of experience creating laboratory SOPs
Demonstrated history of successfully managing multiple concurrent initiatives and maintaining one's own workflow
Demonstrated ability to meet project deadlines
Expertise in equipment maintenance and solution and reagent preparation in a highly complex clinical diagnostic laboratory
Ability to work well under pressure while maintaining a professional demeanor
Ability to flex shifts to support business needs
Strong interpersonal skills that include excellent skills in written communication, oral communication, collaboration, and problem-solving with other departments
Excellent organization and attention to detail
Understanding of HIPAA and the importance of privacy of patient data
