In conjunction with the director, manages the day-to-day operations of the department, which may include the department's operational, programmatic, financial and budget activities.
Supervises assigned Program(s)/Deputy Director(s) directly and direct support staff indirectly to ensure accountability.
Provides counsel and advice to the director regarding department operations.
Reviews and analyzes department operations to evaluate the performance of the department and to identify areas of potential program modifications and improvements.
Ensures the department adheres to agency goals, objectives, and strategies.
Provides leadership and serves as a mentor, coach, being a visible and approachable sounding board and resource to management and programs.
Assures that programs meet required regulatory standards, including but not limited to relevant Federal, State, and Local standards.
Provides oversight of the Department in the absence of the director.
Plans, assigns, and/or supervises the work of others.
Assists in the selection of competent staff.
Ensures that staff are properly trained on the job.
Assists with the supervision and training of adults with intellectual disabilities to promote each individual's growth toward his/her highest potential.
Takes necessary action in emergencies following Agency policies and procedures and reports such incidents according to Agency protocols.
Develops and writes service funding plans for people served who are being considered for admission to vocational programs.
Responsible for the flow of communication to, from, and between Direct Support Professional Staff, management staff, other departments, agencies, professionals, and families.
Creates and promotes a work environment which encourages recognition, communication, professional development, and teamwork while demonstrating a commitment to Agency Values, Mission, and Goals.
Upholds Agency policy and procedures by conducting staff training and taking personnel action as necessary.
Uses crisis intervention techniques in emergencies when people are in danger of injuring themselves or others.
Is a positive role model to people served and Agency staff.
Uses technology for the completion of specified job duties.
Attends work regularly according to the assigned work schedule and in accordance with Agency policy.
Attends and participates in in-service training, staff meetings, and other activities to facilitate professional development.
Works cooperatively with others, including all staff, supervisors, administrators, co-workers, individuals served, community professionals, customers, vendors, and the public.
Assumes other duties, responsibilities, and special projects as needed.
SECONDARY FUNCTION(S):
May attend Individual Planning meetings.
Works cooperatively and effectively with Agency volunteers, maximizing the volunteers' experience while meeting the needs of individuals served and the programs.
REQUIREMENTS:EDUCATION: A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in human services, business management, or a related field is generally preferred.EXPERIENCE: Five years working with people with intellectual disabilities, of which three years must be progressively responsible supervisory experience. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including nights, holidays, and weekends. Must have a car and a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record as determined by criteria established by the Agency's insurance carrier and by Agency policy. NOTE: At the discretion of the Personnel Officer, additional related experience and/or education may be substituted in lieu of the requirements specified above under Education and Experience.What's in it for you?
