Position Summary: Coordinate the development, administration, supervision, delivery and evaluation of program(s). All programs support Activate America initiatives and goals, standards and guidelines established by the YMCA. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Assists supervisor in the scheduling of staff and programs to meet the needs of members and provide for maximum utilization of the fitness areas. Maintain records of all staff to be sure that they are properly certified; including first aid/CPR and attend all necessary trainings required to remain current in the position. Work with supervisor to oversee the quality of fitness instruction and offer suggestions for improvement. Conducts energizing, fun, safe, and educational classes that accomplish the YMCA mission and goals. Communicate with members and staff, make them feel welcome and address them by name. Builds effective relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA. Ensure the health and safety of all individuals in the fitness area, i.e. caution regarding unsafe practices and conditions and perform rescue/first aid when necessary. Assists Supervisor in budget management, recruiting, supervision, training and evaluation of staff. Work with Supervisor to market Fitness/Wellness programs. Maintain good public relations with members, program participants, and their families Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and/or Experience: Associates degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous supervisory experience preferred.Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables. Certifications / Training: (not all are required to apply) CPR, First Aid, AED, Child Abuse Prevention Recommend national certification (ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM) in group fitness instruction and/or personal training or YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise and YMCA Foundations of Strength and Conditioning certifications. Certification in areas of expertise.
