Test Kitchen Manager, ThePioneerWoman.com

ThePioneerWoman.com is looking for a Test Kitchen Manager to join our Birmingham-based food team. This is an exciting opportunity to join a new, fast-growing team. The test kitchen manager will work directly with the digital food director to oversee the test kitchen staff and operations. They will manage the test kitchen schedule and allocate resources to recipe development, video and photo shoots. Candidates should have a culinary degree and/or substantial professional kitchen experience, as well as experience developing and styling recipes and working in print and/or digital publishing.

What you'll do:

  • Manage overall schedule for the test kitchen; allocating time and space for recipe development, photo and video shoots
  • Oversee test kitchen staff and day-to-day operations
  • Schedule freelancers for recipe development, photo and video shoots, as needed
  • Review developed recipes and video storyboards for food content accuracy
  • Procure cooking equipment required for kitchen operations, photo and video shoots
  • Oversee pantry and kitchen organization; maintain an inventory document of equipment and bulk pantry items
  • Coordinate cleaning crew and test kitchen team to maintain an ultra-clean and organized workspace. 
  • Prepare expense reports for test kitchen purchases
  • When time allows, develop recipes, style photos and “hands in pans” videos (based on are of interest or experience)

Who you are:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in English, creative writing, communications or business
  • Culinary degree or 2+ years professional kitchen experience 
  • 5 to 7 years' experience in food media with a published portfolio of developed recipes and/or food styling
  • Strong project management skills
  • 1-3 years experience managing a small team, preferred
  • Experience with recipe development and testing
  • Experience styling food for stills and video
  • Experience using content management systems and managing spreadsheets
  • Demonstrated interest in digital food content and social media

The base salary for this role is between $$68,820 and $80,000. The actual base pay offered is dependent upon many factors, such as: transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
