Sr Engineer-Hydraulic Modeling (Finance)



JOB DESCRIPTION

Primary purpose:

As a member of the Operations Control & Flow Assurance team, this position is responsible for technically evaluating the liquids and natural gas gathering pipeline systems from a hydraulic standpoint utilizing the following software packages: DNV's Synergi (SPS), Gregg Engineering's NextGen, OLGA, Multiflash, and Pipesim for steady state and transient flow states in both single phase and multiphase flow regimes. This position will be responsible for all hydraulic modeling including capacity optimization and commercial/business development scenario modeling.

Additionally, this role will assist and mentor other operations engineers within the group in the areas of peer review, modeling, and other engineering functions as identified. There will be frequent interaction with commercial/business development teams to evaluate potential expansion and/or acquisition opportunities which will require an ability to deliver, and clearly communicate, any technical analysis in a professional and timely manner, often on a short timeline.Minimum requirements:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Petroleum, Chemical, or related field) from an accredited institution.

Experience/Specific Knowledge:

Minimum of 7 years of relevant engineering experience.

Strong proficiency with hydraulic modeling software.

Experience in natural gas gathering system design.

Advanced computer skills and familiarity with industry standards (DOT 49CFR192, API, ASME, ANSI, NACE, NEC) are advantageous.

Advanced proficiency level in MS Office applications including Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:

Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.

Ability to clear drug screening and background checks as required.

Primarily office-based work with occasional field activities involving walking, climbing, and working in varied weather conditions.

Field activities may include walking to and amidst work and/or construction sites, climbing in and out of trenches, working around heavy equipment, negotiating rough terrain, areas of loose rock, and working in confined spaces.

Working Conditions:

Must be available for occasional overtime and non-traditional work hours.

Compensation:

The salary range for this role is $134,320-$201,480/yearEssential duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide consultation and technical direction in hydraulic analysis and the design and implementation of technical products and systems.
  • Support, configure, and maintain hydraulic models for natural gas and liquids gathering pipelines using software such as DNV Synergi (SPS), Gregg Engineering NextGen, OLGA, Multiflash, and Pipesim.
  • Evaluate model performance against actual pipeline data to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Collaborate with commercial/business development teams to model acquisition and expansion projects, providing insights on hydraulic limitations and design needs.
  • Participate in front-end hydraulic analysis for projects and contribute to incident investigations.
  • Support leak detection, field engineering, automation, and integrity teams with hydraulic modeling and operational logic.
  • Lead or contribute to the Management of Change (MOC) process and document best practices.
  • Recommend alterations to development and design to improve quality of products and/or procedures.
  • Communicate technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences, including management.
  • Consistently look to improve processes, procedures, and standards including working with the Engineering Records, GIS & CAD and Operations teams when system information is not available, accurate, or up to date.
  • Assist and mentor engineers through peer reviews, modeling support, and technical guidance.
  • Support Field Engineering teams regarding surge relief design/settings and automated shutdown logic.
  • Work under direct supervision but display initiative and move toward requiring less supervision.
  • Deal with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy, and professionalism.
  • Speak clearly, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of verbal skills and listen carefully.
  • Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and a consistently high level of performance.
  • Will work non-traditional hours as needed.
  • Maintain a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public.
