Russian Part-Time/On-call or Substitute Instructors - Monterey, CA Residents (Education)



ICA Language Services is a leading provider of foreign language training and testing for U.S. Government agencies. With over three decades of experience, ICA supports federal missions through high-quality instruction, curriculum development, and professional services in critical languages.

ICA is currently seeking experienced Russian language instructors to teach adult professionals in person at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in Monterey, CA during the summer and fall of 2025. The candidates need to be residents of Monterey, CA area and have experience teaching the Russian Basic Courses or Post-DLPT (GRIT) program to adult students on an intensive basis (8 hours daily).

Job Details:

  • Pay rate: $37.00
  • Location: Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in Monterey, CA
  • Projected start dates: July - October 2025
  • Training days: Monday through Friday
  • Schedule: 7:45 am - 4:45 pm
  • This project will involve a team-teaching/instructor rotation

Duties:

  • Plan and conduct Russian language classes using a variety of teaching techniques and approaches, to develop students' listening, reading, and speaking skills;
  • Use provided training materials and work collaboratively with other instructors on all program-related matters;
  • Perform other teaching and administrative duties, as needed, under the guidance of the Training Manager(s) and Supervisor(s);
  • Administer weekly quizzes and assessments, and conduct other informal or formal evaluations of students' learning progress;
  • Provide monthly written reports of the students' progress to the supervisor and jointly develop plans to address any potential issues;
  • Maximize the use of instructional technology and online learning resources into teaching to support independent learning;
  • Adjust teaching techniques and approaches to the student's individual learning styles and professional needs;

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a foreign language, linguistics, or a related field
  • Minimum two years of full-time experience teaching adult students
  • Experience teaching US military students
  • Post-DLPT (GRIT) - preferred instructors should have experience teaching the program
  • Familiarity with DLPT, OPI, and other government-administered tests
  • OPI Scores
    • ILR 3 or Superior (ACTFL) in Russian
    • ILR 2 or Advanced (ACTFL) in English
  • Knowledge of the ILR scale
  • Experience integrating instructional technology in teaching and assessment
  • Experience using online meeting platforms for teaching such as Zoom, Teams, or WebEx
  • Native speaker of the Russian language
