Essential Functions Newpark's Mud School is a 24-month program that will provide all the necessary training (classroom and field based) to become a fully qualified Drilling Fluids Specialist. • Successful candidates will complete their initial 6-week classroom training at our Fluids Technology Center in Katy, TX and will then begin their on-location training in their assigned region.
• Regions will be assigned based on the trainee's home location. RELOCATION NOT REQUIRED.
• On-location training schedules are typically 14 days-on and 14 days-off.
• Required travel, accommodations, uniforms and safety equipment will be paid by the Company.
• Trainees will be eligible for all employee benefits and a pay increase once training is successfully completed.
Drilling Fluids Specialists will be responsible for the following once training is complete:
1. Operate Newpark proprietary fluid systems safely and control the fluid within defined specifications. Troubleshoot and repair drilling fluid situations. Recognize drilling problems and implement solutions.
2. Interface with rig contractor, operator and other service companies to improve efficiencies in drilling operations. Represent the Company and the Operator's best interests through accurate, professional, effective interaction with pertinent personnel by demonstrating current industry level of expertise.
3. Demonstrate knowledge of Company drilling fluids products.
4. Perform complete, accurate and timely well-site analysis of all drilling fluids parameters required by the Company and/or Operator.
5. Responsible for advising the operator to resolve any problems which occur at the drilling site and remaining onsite until the problem is resolved, e.g. lost circulation, gas kicks, chemical contamination.
6. Assist in the efficient operation of the solids control equipment.
7. Advise all rig personnel on the safe handling of company's products and supply information on toxicity of drilling fluid products. Lead safety meetings.
8. Order, maintain and return accurate stocks of drilling fluids products. Reconcile drilling fluids product usage with warehouse supplies. Develop contingency plans if needed to correct inventory shortages.
9. Generate and maintain accurate and timely drilling fluid reports and records using Company applications and software, e.g. Mud Reports, final well summary, daily drilling fluid report., Materials Concentration Forms, Drilling Fluids Recaps.
10. Ensure well is ready for billing at rig release, e.g. reconciling inventory, ensuring tickets completed, signed and submitted.
11. Other duties and projects as assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements High School Diploma or educational equivalent. Entry level. Under training supervision acquires knowledge of drilling operations and relationships to drilling fluids. Entry level understanding of solids control equipment, screens and fluid relationships to Drilling Waste Management processes. Uses software to complete reports. Entry level knowledge of product supply chain, forecasting and rig site ordering processes. Position Summary Under direct supervision, trains with experienced drilling fluids specialists to provide onsite services to the operator by measuring and testing the running of fluid mixing and pumping, including technical analysis and specific recommendations for controlling fluid properties.
