Fraud Specialist (Finance)



SUMMARY:

The Fraud Specialist is responsible for monitoring, identifying, and mitigating fraudulent activity to protect the bank and its customers. This role will include fraud detection within banking systems through model generated alerts, transaction reviews, account behavior, online history, and dispute analysis. This role will coordinate with other financial institutions regarding fraud related incidents, claims, and disputes. The Specialist may contact customers to confirm validity of transactions. The Specialist will assist management with adjusting and performing department procedure, measuring alert/review effectiveness, and communicating case suspect fraud procedure/resolutions to other bank employees.

The salary for this role will be between $26 and $35. The specific salary offered will depend on several factors including but not limited to applicant's skills and prior relevant experience.  Hired candidate may be eligible for healthcare benefits, 401K plan, short term & long-term disability coverage, life insurance, vacation & sick time, educational assistance, and several holidays.  Certain roles are eligible for additional rewards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Conduct thorough reviews of alerts generated by models to detect and prevent fraudulent activities.
  • Analyze transaction patterns and online behavior to identify potential fraud risks.
  • Demonstrate situational awareness of mitigation efforts and perform appropriate risk-based actions.
  • Create and retain detailed case documentation.
  • Partners with various lines of business to monitor and prevent fraud.
  • Facilitate prompt and reasonable resolution to various types of fraud.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of written policies / procedures regarding BSA, Reg CC, Reg E, and other regulation.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Conduct fraud recovery efforts.
  • Routinely contact bank employees (as well as customers at times) to confirm the legitimacy of suspicious payment transactions.
  • Demonstrate expertise in risk management to monitor and challenge risk activities and procedures.
  • Provide fraud risk consultation to various department partners.
  • May be asked to coach or train others as a subject matter expert.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3-4 Years of experience with focus on risk related analysis.
  • Banking industry experience preferred.
  • Fraudulent activity review experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of commonly used fraud schemes, fraud prevention concepts, compliance, and bank technology.
  • Knowledge of banking systems and data analysis tools.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent prior experience of training in audit, bank operation, financial or operational analysis.
  • Experience using “Verafin” suite is a benefit.

SKILLS:

  • Proficiency with software programs (MS office suite, Banking systems, and/or vendor platforms).
  • Capability to identify anomalous behavior (within transaction, device, or other user activities).
  • Ability to make timely risk-based decisions.

 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to effectively communicate via phone/video, messaging, and email. The employee is required to use computer and office equipment such as a computer, printer, copier, as well as computer software such as Microsoft Office. You may also frequently be required to occupy a workstation for long periods of time.
