Principal Attorney, Data Gover (Finance)



We are seeking an experienced and strategic lawyer to join our dynamic legal team, focusing on data governance, website accessibility standards, and the monetization of data through data rights clauses and analysis. In this role, you will provide expert legal guidance on regulatory compliance related to our products, ensure the proper governance of our data assets, ensure our website meets accessibility standards, and collaborate with various business units to develop strategies for data monetization while safeguarding legal and regulatory risks.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Data Governance:
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive data governance frameworks to ensure compliance with global data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, and other applicable laws).
  • Work with internal stakeholders to ensure the ethical collection, storage, and use of data, including sensitive customer or user information.
  • Assist in implementing policies for data security, access control, and retention, ensuring proper management of all data-related risks.
  • Monetizing Data Through Data Rights Clauses and Analysis:
    • Analyze and negotiate data rights clauses in commercial contracts, including licensing, access, and transfer of data, ensuring the company maximizes the value of its data assets.
    • Work with business teams to identify opportunities for data monetization, including partnerships, data-sharing agreements, and creating new revenue streams through strategic use of data.
    • Provide legal analysis and strategic guidance on the implementation of data rights agreements and assist in structuring business deals that involve data monetization.
    • Stay informed of emerging trends in data rights, data sales, and intellectual property law related to data usage and monetization.
  • Website Accessibility Standards:
    • Advise and guide the company on ensuring website accessibility standards are met, complying with legal requirements such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, and international accessibility standards.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the company's digital properties, including websites and mobile applications, are accessible to all users, including those with disabilities.
    • Provide legal counsel on potential risks and liabilities associated with website accessibility and assist in developing policies and strategies to mitigate such risks.
    • Help ensure ongoing compliance with evolving accessibility regulations and guidelines, providing guidance on accessibility audits and required updates.
  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration:
    • Provide training and legal support for internal stakeholders on data privacy, data governance, accessibility, and monetization issues.
    • Support the legal team in managing disputes, investigations, or regulatory inquiries related to data governance, compliance, and accessibility.
