The Scott Family Amazeum is a hands-on, interactive museum in Northwest Arkansas that creates a fun environment where risk taking, imagining, problem solving, discovery, collaboration, and exploration bring children and adults together to learn and grow.

The mission of the Amazeum is:

“To engage the imagination of children and their families through interactive exhibits, programs, and resources while creating an excitement for lifelong learning and the enrichment of lives.”

Through experiences with the Amazeum, individuals and the community are engaged in building relationships and developing identities as creative, curious, and innovative shapers for the region. Learning at the Amazeum is an active, playful exploration that inspires curiosity. It is rooted in inquiry-based discovery and involves an element of risk. Hands-on learning opportunities allow guests to exercise critical thinking in the context of play.

The Amazeum facility includes approximately 50,000 square feet of indoor space and one acre of outdoor exhibition and activity space. The museum is located at the intersection of Museum Way and J Street in Bentonville, AR.

Position Summary

The Exhibits Technician supports the mission of the Amazeum by ensuring the daily safe and effective operation of the museum's exhibits. This individual is responsible for the daily operation, maintenance, repairs and improvements of exhibits. This individual will provide ongoing support for the maintenance and upkeep of the museum's fabrication and storage areas and equipment. This individual will collaboratively prototype, develop, fabricate and install new permanent and temporary exhibitions.

Essential Functions

  • Conduct exhibits start-up on a daily basis and perform routine preventative maintenance to ensure satisfactory performance and reliability
  • Troubleshoot and make repairs and improvements to exhibits
  • Design, develop, prototype, fabricate and install new permanent and temporary exhibits
  • Maintain and update documentation of the entire exhibits collection and components
  • Maintain and upkeep fabrication shop, storage and other facility areas and equipment for optimal efficiency
  • Coordinate with team members in determining resource needs for the production and installation of permanent and temporary exhibits both on and offsite
  • Collaboratively develop and produce technical manuals, reports, and other written materials

Physical demands

  • Requires standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, reaching
  • Handling materials, pulling, carrying and pushing
  • Occasional lifting of various materials and equipment to a maximum of 75 pounds

Travel required

  • Some activities may require travel and transportation of materials by personal vehicle.

Required education and experience

  • Experience working in a fabrication shop, production environment or similar setting operating various power tools and equipment
  • Demonstrated fabrication skills in wood, metal, plastics, and other building materials
  • Demonstrated skills in the troubleshooting and maintenance of complex electrical, mechanical, digital and A/V systems
  • Proficient in Microsoft suite (Office, Word, Excel)
  • Strong working knowledge of Google suite (Docs, Sheets, Drive)

Preferred education and experience

  • Experience operating scissor lifts, forklifts, and similar equipment
  • Experience in design, theater, art, building or similar creative production environments
  • Experience with interactive exhibit design
  • Experience with 3D CAD software (Fusion360, Solidworks, Sketchup, etc.)
  • Experience with 2D design software (Inkscape, Adobe suite, etc.)
  • Experience operating CNC fabrication equipment (e.g., mill, router, laser)
  • Experience in digital coding or software development

  • Background Check required
  • Must be able to provide proper documentation for Employment Eligibility Verification on first day of employment
  • Must be able to comply with all safety and operational policies
