Systems Engineer II (Architecture)



Job Summary/Purpose:

This job will support the infrastructure (both internal and external) that is the base on which BRI, BRI's Clients, BRI Sales, Client Support & Hosting relies on in addition to mentoring junior employees in this technical field.   

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Installing, maintaining, tuning, debugging, & performing the daily administration to keep BRI & BRI Clients' computer systems running and applications functioning. 

• Virtual Environment provisioning, troubleshooting and support.

• Oversight, management and administration of operating systems, desktops/servers/devices, storage, and applications (LAN/WAN), data/databases and/or information security.

• Backup/restore and disaster recovery support for infrastructure & hosted solutions.

• Executing technical instructions from the Systems Engineer III. 

Education and Experience:   

Associates degree with a minimum 2 years' job related experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience. 

• Experience or technical focus to include one or multiple areas such as: 

o Server, storage & OS  

o Network, LAN/WAN 

o DBA/data architecture  

o Desktop

o Information security 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Server/OS:  

o UNIX/Microsoft Windows servers implementation, monitoring & management

o Scripting experience (PowerShell/VBScript/ etc.) creating, editing & maintaining utilizing error handling and variable/conditional execution & notifications

o Support, management & troubleshooting of High Availability configurations and Clustering (SQL, File, Web, etc.)

o Management, implementation & troubleshooting of Server virtualization technology including VMWare and/or hyper-v

o Systems Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) experience

o Management, implementation & troubleshooting of web-based, hosting technologies and/or Citrix/terminal services

o Experience in managing/implementing enterprise applications such as email, WEB infrastructure, AD, UNIX OS and/or database administration

o Oversight, management, troubleshooting & maintenance of storage technologies – SAN, NetApp and/or iSCSI

o Implementation, management, testing, debugging, troubleshooting and production migration skills

• Network:   

o Network Architecture (SNA), Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

o Domain Name System (DNS), and NetBIOS Extended User Interface (NetBEUI)

o LAN/WAN/MAN support, maintenance & management

o Voice & data queuing, prioritization and troubleshooting, experience in monitoring and potential “user-experience” troubleshooting

o Understanding of data flow and network interfaces and protocols

o Familiarity or experience in performance monitoring, load-balancing, HA configuration & support

• Desktop:   

o Desktops/laptop administration

o Experience in server & workstation image building

o Experience in user-specific profiles

o Experience in application integration, application & OS testing, troubleshooting, deployment, configuration, MS & other product support

• Information Security: 

o Experience in the management and administration of protection for desktops, servers, network, endpoints, including monitoring & alerting

o Experience in data, system and organizational security architecture as well as supporting policies, procedures and prevention

o Experience configuring, managing  and/or troubleshooting of security devices (including firewalls, network devices, intrusion detection, content filtering/blocking, log management, etc.)

o Experience in penetration tests, vulnerability assessments and potentially responding to security audits

o Familiarity and/or experience in data protection, leak prevention & data breach

o Familiarity and/or experience in threat monitoring, alerting, identification & protection 

• Ability to be on call 24x7x365 and/or rotate through

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Quick study of new technology via online or on the job training

• Good judgment to involve and communicate with vendors, senior level technicians, and management

• Excellent attention to detail
