Assistant Professor of Mathematics (Education)



The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Houston-Downtown is inviting applicants for the position of Assistant Professor depending on qualifications to begin August 2025.  We are seeking candidates with a commitment to teaching excellence in a diverse student community, research potential, possible industry experience, and willingness to actively participate in curriculum development and provide professional service to the department and the university.   

  • Ability to teach Mathematic and Mathematic Education Courses at the undergraduate and graduate level in a variety of formats including face-to-face, hybrid, online and problem-based classes
  • Supervises undergraduate and graduate students' projects
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Provide leadership in curriculum development and professional service, participating in leading the BA in mathematics with secondary teaching certificate
  • Demonstrated commitment to service to the university, profession and community
  • Ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders, including local independent school districts
  • K-12 teaching experience is highly valuable

Required:

  •  Ph.D. degree in Mathematics, or Mathematics Education (with 18+credit hours in graduate level Mathematics or Statistics Courses)

Preferred:

  • Teaching experience
  • K-12 teaching experience
  • Experience in collaborating with local independent school districts and/or education departments at the University Level
  • Research Potential/Experience
