Accountant (Financial Reporting) HYBRID - Colorado Springs, CO (Finance)

Primary purpose:
Assist in the preparation and timely filing of regulatory reports with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). Prepare or support the preparation of certain GAAP/SEC financial reports and filings to other government agencies as needed. Candidate must be a self-motivated, flexible individual with a strong willingness to learn, accept responsibilities, tackle challenges and function in a demanding, fast-paced environment. Overtime may be required during critical times.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

Prepare financial information for GAAP reports and FERC Forms 2, 6, 3-Q and 6-Q reports and other annual reports as assigned, including:
1) Consolidating and consolidated trial balances;

2) Balance Sheets;

3) Income Statements;

4) Cash Flow Statements;

5) Comprehensive Income Statements;

6) Statements of Retained Earnings and Owners' Equity;

7) Financial footnotes;

8) Participate in the preparation of reports, financial schedules, reconciliations and information for special projects, as assigned, including:

  • Ability to analyze complex accounting issues.
  • Support the external audit function for GAAP, SEC and regulatory reports.
  • Review report sections prepared and documented by others to meet Sarbanes-Oxley or other compliance requirements.
  • Regularly use Microsoft Office, Lawson and Hyperion applications, and periodically learn new applications.
  • Create and maintain productive working relationships with internal and external customers and departments with tact, courtesy and professionalism.
  • Ensure data requests are addressed promptly.
  • Work non-traditional hours, as needed.
  • Maintain a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets and employees and the general public.
  • Occasional but infrequent travel away from the local area may be required.

Position Requirements

Minimum requirements:
Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is required.
  • General understanding of the energy industry and familiarity with industry terminology

Experience/Specific Knowledge:
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in an accounting or accounting-related position, with some work experience in financial reporting preferred.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient with Excel and related Microsoft applications.
  • Working knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and regulatory accounting principles.

Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).

Competencies, Skills & Abilities:
  • Intermediate proficiency level with Microsoft software, including but not limited to: Excel, Access, Word and Outlook.
  • Strong analytical skills and logical thought processes, with the ability to identify potential disclosure issues and determine required disclosures from applicable US GAAP and regulatory accounting guidance.
  • Communicate clearly using a high level of written, verbal and listening skills.
  • Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and a consistently high level of performance.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize daily work and maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Ability to successfully and simultaneously manage multiple tasks, meet multiple deadlines and work independently with minimal direct supervision.
  • Work effectively in a small group environment as a cooperative team member, take direction from others, focus attention on details, follow work rules and adhere to required work schedules.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with others upon whom we depend for required information.
  • Ability to identify, understand and meet/exceed expectations in an employee/employer relationship.
  • Must be able to perform all essential and marginal functions of the job.

Physical Demands:

  • This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files or small file boxes, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.

Working Conditions:

  • The financial reporting team with which the successful candidate would be working is based in Colorado Springs and is the preferred location for this position.
  • The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, including credit report, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.
  • This position offers a hybrid work schedule (M-W in the office, Th and Fri work remote).

Supervisory Responsibility:
  • None.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Above the minimum requirements; not required but advantageous in this position:
  • CPA or Masters in Business a plus.
  • FERC financial reporting or related experience highly desirable, including knowledge of FERC rules and Code of Federal Regulations (CFR).
  • Working knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and regulatory accounting principles
  • Experience with Lawson financial software, particularly the general ledger module.

Pay range: $78,900-$114,400 per year. This position includes a discretionary annual incentive plan. Job level and pay commensurate with experience and skill set.
