L Minor Care Center Team Assistant (Personal Services)



Job Summary:

The Care Team Assistant supports daily center operations by assisting with life skills routines, rounds, safety checks, meals, inventory, and front desk presence. This role works in close coordination with the Guest Coordinator and under the supervision of the Center Team Leader to help maintain a structured, safe, and welcoming environment for guests with high barriers and special needs.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Serve with a heart of hospitality, greeting guests and visitors with warmth and respect while maintaining a calm, clean and welcoming front entrance and lobby..

  • Complete other duties as assigned within the scope of practice and role to support the center's mission and the well-being of guests.

  • Support daily meal rhythms by helping with meal pickup, snack and coffee station oversight, and ensuring smooth transitions during mealtimes.

  • Assist in creating a clean, dignified, and safe living environment by performing daily rounds, restocking supplies, and modeling shared responsibility.

  • Provide oversight of the laundry room and hygiene areas, ensuring guests have access to clean supplies and supporting their use of center amenities.

  • Participate in safety and wellness checks throughout the center, identifying areas of concern and alerting the center's leadership when needed.

  • Maintain a visible and supportive presence in common spaces, using moments of interaction to encourage healthy routines, peer respect, and personal responsibility.

  • Offer assistance in life skill groups or center routines by preparing materials, helping facilitate setup, or walking alongside guests as they learn tasks.

  • Respond to incidents or emotional escalation with calmness and compassion, helping to uphold the safety and dignity of all guests.

  • Carry out delegated duties as part of a collaborative care team, always with the intention to foster healing, structure, and belonging.

  • Perform other duties as required within scope of role.

City Union Mission Requirements:

  • Be a born again, mature Christian able to clearly communicate the Gospel as opportunities arise during the workday. (1 Peter 2:21, 3:15)

  • Have a desire to serve the Lord through widely varied responsibilities to advance ministry to those currently homeless, and the urban poor of Kansas City, with a compassionate heart.

  • Agree to City Union Mission's Statement of Ministry:

    • Be a genuine believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, as expressed by personal testimony and conduct.

    • Be a member in good standing of a recognized protestant, evangelical church for one year or more.

    • Have a genuine concern for the ministry of City Union Mission.

    • Have a minimum of one year of sobriety from alcohol and drugs and six months from tobacco.

    • Agree to abstain from alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, and tobacco while employed by City Union Mission.

    • Have a lifestyle that is free of sexual sin as clearly defined in the Bible.



Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Must have the spiritual maturity and ability to interact with various types of people and have a sound understanding of mental health, disabilities and/or age-related challenges.

  • Must have the ability to work overnight and weekends.

  • Valid driver's license or eligible to obtain a valid driver's license.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent.

  • Demonstrated work-related or volunteer experience in care facilities, homeless ministry, veteran nonprofits, transportation and/or janitorial services.

  • Preferred: Lived experience and/or education within peer support specialist field

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to ascend/descend stairs and conduct center rounds multiple times throughout shift.

  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.

  • Ability to assist guests to exit in times of emergency evacuation.
