J ob Title: Transportation Manager

Salary Range: $95,000 - 105,000

FLSA: Salary, Exempt

Location: Seattle - Administration

About the Position

The Transportation Manager oversees and maintains the daily operations of routes and driver performance in multiple lines of Goodwill business: Donation pick-ups, roll-off and tractor trailer vehicles. Ensures excellent internal and external customer service. Responsible for the safe operation of all equipment and vehicles.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.

  • Oversee all transportation operations including deliveries to and from stores, ADC's warehouses, special events, Mobile Operations and waste removal.
  • Plans, distributes, monitors, and follows-up daily route assignments to ensure customers are serviced per company standards and agreements. Maintain rapport with donation sites, stores and vendors to ensure quality service and support.
  • Prepare truck drivers and dispatchers work schedules. Approve vacation and schedule modifications. Maintain attendance/punctuality records, review sick leave, overtime, wages and salary issues.
  • Ensure that payroll information is accurate for processing. Maintains and reports budget P&L for Transportation Operations.
  • Reviews weekly demand / volume for routes, determines potential gains from re-routing, and recommends re-route activity for better efficiency. Sets and monitors productivity, service, and safety targets for each route and driver.
  • Reviews and audits documentation related to route operations on a daily basis (e.g., DVIRs, driver time and attendance, open tickets), following-up where appropriate. Plans and facilitates regularly scheduled Transportation Department meetings
  • Ensure compliance with all Evergreen Goodwill policies and DOT/OSHA safety and security regulations.
  • Assists in determining rental requirements and equipment needs.
  • Maintain accurate record keeping for all maintenance and repairs on Transportation equipment.
  • Prepare and maintain all necessary operational reports and records as assigned.
  • Demonstrate excellent internal and external customer service skills.
  • Act as a liaison for the department when working with other EGNW departments
  • Upholds safe work practices in support of a safety culture through awareness and observation; train and educate employees of safety requirements; reports any potential hazards or accidents.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities :

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Goodwill's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; monitoring performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems. Partner with People Relations as needed and appropriate.

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent; college degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in transportation environment with 2 years in Management or supervisory experience required.
  • Experience or working knowledge of logistics, shipping, receiving, scheduling, interviewing and hiring.
  • Knowledgeable of working with various GPS/Fleet management solution systems.
  • Must be able to pass Pre-Employment drug and alcohol test.
    • DOT and FMCSA knowledge.
    • Understanding of Commercial Drivers Licensing.
    • Requires the analytical ability to handle administrative duties and mental alertness to ensure accurate, safe, and thorough completion of work activities.
    • Ability to take ownership and be accountable for issue resolution and general customer satisfaction.
    • Ability to handle multiple deadlines in a faced paced environment.
    • Ability to speak, write, and understand English fluently.

    • Must be able to pass Pre-employment drug and alcohol test.

Certificates, Licenses, or Registrations:

  • Current Washington State Driver's License required and proof of insurance.
  • CDL Driver's License required.

Computer/Technology Skills:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook and Teams. Experience working with Transportation software preferred.
  • Ability to learn new technology and software as related to the job.

Physical Abilities

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required sit for long periods of time, communicate with other employees by talking and hearing, required to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds and to operate computer systems. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Able to communicate with others effectively both verbally and written, including those who have limited English skills. Maintain reliable attendance.

Work Environment: Various working environments to include: office, retail, production and warehouse. Moderate to loud noise level, exposure to dust. Must have reliable transportation, as this position requires regular travel to locations, offsite meetings and events. Must be able to work non-standard hours if required.
