HIM Coder, Full-Time 40hrs a week, Mon-Friday 8am-5pm, no weekends or holidays (Media)



SUMMARY
The HIM Coder is responsible for coding activities of patient records. Compliance with rules and regulations of all applicable federal, state and local laws as well as PMHC policies is a condition of employment.
Requirements/ Essential Functions
Incumbent must have the skills, ability and judgment to perform the following essential job duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation:
Determines proper ICD-10-CM diagnoses and ICD-10-PCS procedure codes and CPT procedure codes on all hospital patients, using the TruCode Encoder, and coding books as necessary.Must have good communication skills as the coder will work closely with the PFS team, providers, insurance representatives and patients.Maintains confidentiality at all time and follows all HIPAA regulations.Responsible for attending educational programs for personal development and obtaining CEU (Continuing Education Units) for any certifications/licensures.Prepares information for birth certificates as necessary and enters the information into the State of Nebraska Vital Statistics system.Will utilize Meditechs ITS desktop to add mammography codes, transcribe reports, manage reports, etc.Other duties as deemed necessary.

1. Directly responsible to the HIM Leader.

While performing the duties of this job, employees occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock.
The level of risk of exposure to blood borne pathogens is Classification III, as outlined in the Hepatitis B Vaccine Program Policy.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
EDUCATION
Degree or certificate from an accredited college, university or technical school in the field of Health Information Management or Medical Coding is preferred.
Medical terminology, disease process, anatomy and physiology, and pharmacology knowledge is a must.
One to three years of experience or training preferred.
COMPETENCIES/CERTIFICATIONS
Current accreditation from the American Health Information Management Association preferred.
Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)Certified Coding Associate (CCA)Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
Notary Public certification preferred or willing to obtain.
