Job Summary

The Vice President Corporate Controller and Corporate FP&A of Epiq is responsible for overseeing all global corporate accounting and finance operations while achieving strong internal controls and meeting all applicable compliance requirements. The role will be primarily responsible for establishing and managing accounting, tax and finance workflows to include financial reporting, general ledger accounting (month-end close), and revenue operations to have quality accounting and reporting.

Additionally, the role will lead the planning, budgeting, analysis, and forecasting function.  The VP will bring innovation and best practices to the organization, particularly around developing and maintaining financial models to support existing budgeting and forecasting, internal financial report analysis, and capital expenditures.  Of prime importance, this executive will closely integrate the corporate FP&A function with the remainder of Epiq's business operations, bringing consistent processes and high-value analytics for proactive business decisions or insights into risk and mitigations. 

This role reports to the Chief Financial Officer.

Responsibilities

  • Corporate Controller
    • Recruit, manage, oversee, mentor, and develop a best-in-class accounting department.
    • Set standards of excellence and improve processes, efficiencies, technology, and talent management.
    • Ensure all financial transactions are properly recorded, filed, and reported timely and in accordance with accounting policies on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. Includes quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
    • Ensure compliance with all GAAP and tax requirements and other applicable laws, rules, and financial regulations for financial, partnership, and tax reporting.
    • Oversee and direct internal and external reporting requirements, including GAAP financial statements.
    • Review monthly financial statements.
    • Build strong relationships with business partners, auditors, executive staff, and the Board of Directors (BOD).
    • Advises management of potential changes in accounting regulations or practices which may impact operations and reporting.
    • Preparation of ad-hoc special requests for management.
  • Corporate FP&A
    • Work closely with the CEO, CFO, business units, and departmental leadership to (1) develop long-term strategic plans, annual budgets, and operational analysis and reporting; and (2) provide thought leadership in the creation, enhancement, and scaling of department-level key performance indicators.
    • Operate among cross-functional teams to analyze and present key financial and strategic issues to senior leadership.  Proactively monitor and analyze trends in the business and report upon them appropriately. This includes weekly flashes and partnering with the CFO in weekly operating meetings on key business intelligence.
    • Work on a cross-functional basis, develop and maintain an annual budget and a three-year long-range plan that incorporates the financial impacts of the Company's strategies and initiatives.  Also, develop and maintain monthly outlooks and forecasts, which include relevant comparisons to Plan, with an improvement in accuracy from where the Company stands today.
    • Play a role in the ongoing evolution/enhancement of business intelligence and budgeting tools. 
    • Provide support to our month-end and quarter-end closing and external reporting processes, including executive-level monthly and quarterly performance packages to be utilized by our executive management team and Board of Directors.
    • Drive internal processes to maintain and improve the quarterly financial outlook.
    • Lead the development, monitoring, and reporting of key operational metrics regarding productivity and efficiency, and drive improvements.
    • Perform ad hoc financial analysis to support key business decisions.
    • Provide support for quarterly external reporting, including guidance and earnings releases relating to lender and rating agency requirements.
    • Supervise, develop, mentor, establish and review quarterly and annual goals for the broader FP&A organization team in collaboration with the CFO and the Company's General Managers. Enhance the skill set of the FP&A team (including replacing and developing), as well as improve key relationships with various operating departments across the company.
    • Maintain annual incentive compensation calculations and annual company valuations.

Requirements

  • 15+ years relevant experience with a private and publicly held finance organization leading corporate accounting and FP&A functions and team with a demonstrated ability to understand profitability drivers and forecasting and quality accounting. 
  • CPA required
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to direct a worldwide cross-functional and multi-disciplinary team.
  • Sharp, forward-thinking problem solver with high standards of excellence and comfort with driving change.
  • Ability to work successfully in a fast-paced environment and develop a deep understanding of the business.
  • Excellent technical accounting and financial and analytical abilities, including solid knowledge of US GAAP.
  • Succinct in both verbal and written communications.
  • A proven track record of process improvement and experience with financial systems and process change initiatives.
  • M&A and integration from due diligence, financial analysis, and post-acquisition integration.
  • International experience.
  • The poise and presence to present and engage at senior levels and a personal style that welcomes and engenders trust and collaboration with colleagues and staff.

Candidates based in California, Colorado, New York or Washington:

The Annual Compensation range for this role is 151,542.90 - 303,085.20 USD Annual and may be eligible for an annual bonus. Actual compensation within that range will be dependent upon the individual's skills, experience and qualifications.
