Senior Scrum Master (Finance)



Overview

We are seeking a full-time Senior Scrum Master in our Olathe, KS or our Cary, NC location. In this role, you will be responsible for playing a vital role in driving agile excellence across software development teams within Auto OEM and guiding and mentoring scrum teams to ensure adherence to agile principles while fostering an environment of collaboration, continuous improvement, and high performance as an experienced service leader.

This role helps scrum teams reach peak productivity by facilitating scrum ceremonies, assisting the product owner with maintaining a healthy and actionable backlog, and enabling consistent delivery of value. This role acts as a coach, facilitator and change agent- removing impediments, promoting agile best practices, and aligning delivery efforts with strategic business goals. This role is key to enabling the successful execution of projects that power Garmin's next generation automotive technology.

Essential Functions

  • Guide, coach and train the Scrum Team on how to use Agile practices and principles to deliver high quality products and features to our customers
  • Own and facilitate the Scrum events as needed: Sprint Planning, Daily Standup, Sprint Review (Demo) and Sprint Retrospectives
  • Ensure the Sprint Plan is approved, complete, committed and kicked off on time
  • Drive for improvement, especially regarding metrics and Agile best practices in Sprint Retrospectives
  • Coach the team through a set of demos in the Sprint Review and ensure the Product Owner accepts or rejects all stories
  • Identify, communicate, and remove daily impediments to the Scrum Team's progress
  • Lead and coach the SW organization in its Scrum adoption
  • Enable close cooperation across all SW and non-SW roles and functions
  • Report on team development metrics to the larger SW organization on a regular basis
  • Bring obstacles, metrics, and dependencies to the Scrum of Scrum meeting and communicate between Scrum of Scrum and their respective teams
  • Partner with the Product Owner on the product backlog and handling new requests
  • Support a team culture that values respectful communication, active listening, and inclusive collaboration
  • Collect and analyze team metrics to identify patterns and opportunities for improvement, and collaborate with team members and management to recommend thoughtful adjustments to processes and practices
  • Build trust across the team through consistency, reliability, and a service-orientated mindset
  • Ensure the Scrum Team remains on task and focused with priority deadlines and work
  • Act as a change champion to foster high levels of effectiveness and maturity within the team including establishing a healthy, collaborative team environment
  • Ensure deliverables are up to quality standards at the end of each sprint
  • Serve as a point of contact for external communications (e.g. from customers or stakeholders)
  • Help the Scrum Team achieve higher levels of Scrum maturity and implement changes effectively
  • Some Travel Required (less than 20%)
  • Integrate, use and provide feedback on products in development when possible
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering AND a minimum of 5 years relevant work experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Experience in a Scrum Master role
  • Excellent knowledge of Scrum techniques and artifacts (such as definition of done, user stories, automated testing, backlog refinement)
  • JIRA and/or Azure DevOps expertise
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others under challenging circumstances including problem-solving and conflict-resolution ability
  • Proficiency in organization and time management
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in the Agile Software Development Life Cycle
  • Ability to understand Garmin's software development methodology
Desired Qualifications
  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5 as a general rule)
  • Certified Scrum Master
  • Embedded SW Development Expertise
  • Automotive OEM experience with either automotive manufacturer or tier 1 or 2 supplier
