*Lead Instructional Technologist (Project Management)



The Instructional Technologist Lead oversees a small team and serves as both a hands-on expert and a collaborative manager. This role ensures the effective utilization and support of core platforms—including Kaltura and Mediasite for video content distribution, Zoom for video conferencing, Qualtrics for survey administration, and Poppulo for digital signage. With a focus on service excellence and cross-functional collaboration, this position enhances the digital infrastructure that supports faculty, staff, and students.

In addition to platform oversight, the Instructional Technologist Lead drives the integration of technology into teaching, learning, and professional development. This includes leading the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of technology-enhanced instructional practices to foster student success, educator growth, and institutional innovation.

Duties include:

  • Leads and manages a small team, including assist with hiring, training, mentoring and performance evaluations.
  • Ensures the operational continuity and reliability of instructional technology tools and related systems across the university.
  • Oversees and contributes to the design, development and administration of instructional technology tools, including scripting, and application support, and web development/maintenance as needed.
  • Manages and coordinates a wide range of instructional technology projects university-wide, serving as a primary liaison among stakeholders, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Delivers exceptional customer service while ensuring that all projects are executed professionally and completed on time.
  • Identifies, evaluates, and recommends emerging technologies that enhance learning across in-person, online, and hybrid environments.
  • Partners with academic leaders to support instructional technology needs, including learning management systems (LMS), course and assignment design, pedagogical strategies, and classroom technology integration.
  • Participates in relevant committees and working groups.
  • Provides oversight and coordination of technical support services for instructional technology tools and systems across the institution.
  • Applies and enforces university-wide tools, processes, and best practices to ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the positions.

Required Education: Bachelors degree in Instructional Technology, Educational Technology, Instructional Design, or a related field

  • 7 years of experience in instructional technology, instructional design, or related area

Equivalency/Substitution: Experience or a combination of education & related experience can be considered in lieu of degree. A one-to-one ratio is used to determine the number of years of experience required in place of a degree.

Skills:

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in scheduling, planning, and conducting meetings with diverse stakeholders across departments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with interdepartmental teams on shared initiatives and cross-functional projects.
  • Understanding of instructional theories, learning models, and design processes for technology-enhanced teaching and learning.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in handling data, documentation, and instructional content.
  • Ability to clearly and professionally communicate complex technical and academic topics to a wide range of audiences, including faculty, staff, and students.
  • Ability to work in dynamic environments with rapidly changing technologies, priorities, and project scopes.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and sound judgment in identifying solutions and making decisions without close supervision.

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Standard office hours with occasional evening or weekend support as needed. 
  • Involves long periods of sitting, typing, and viewing a computer screen. 
  • Ability to engage in repetitive motions. 
  • Standard office environment. 
  • Occasional lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required for equipment setup during events or training sessions.

Supervision:

  • Will supervise a team of 6 employees.
